    Motorcycling gear from years ago

About 30 + years ago I had a hand-me-down yellow heavily padded Yamaha Sweatshirt ( same era as the 'Golden Breed" sweatshirts -that seemed to coincide with the introduction of the XR250)- Shit I wish I still had it. Anyone remember those?

Same era- Izona Cargo Military pants, Supercross Tshirts from event at Western Springs, Starsky & Hutch cardies, posters of the Amco 'Hombre' drag car at Meremere & of course Uggs.

Anyone had something motorcycly from that era they can still remember?

    Even better any pics

I don't have my cut off DJ anymore.Or my white Yamaha sweat shirt, with the Yamaha stripes in red down the sleeves....my TY175 had the same colour scheme.White is a stupid colour for me...apart from the grease, cow poo stains are hard to remove too.I still wear my blue and red Honda T shirt - I used to wear it over my leather jacket to keep the mud off when riding on the dirt track...and still wear it over whatever at trials.Still have my Sidi MX boots, still have my FFM MX helmet....just because I like the black with gold racing stripes.Wish I still had my blue and yellow Yoko gloves.

I've got a pair of fake old honda long sleeve t-shirt/race shirts.
Late 80's Rossi leather road boots.

Shane has a Preston Petty front guard on his TS400.
The rest of his gear just looks old.

Ashmans (english) Red Devil motocross boots, padded on the front and about 9 buckles up the side, Bell Motostar III helmet (which replaced a Bell Star 120) and my brand new Leda one piece leathers was my outfit for speedway racing about 37 years ago. Still got all of it, a bit second hand now
And the Scott googles with roll-off cover strip. Gloves were some thin things with strips of rubber on the backs of the fingers
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

My first biking jacket was an army jacket from army surplus. Was surprisingly tough, warm and water resistant for a while (and still warm when wet).

I still have some flouro pink and yellow Pro MX pants from the early nineties (never worn). I'm waiting for the flouro trend to make a come back.

My first bike jacket was a fire service 'bunker' coat teamed with yellow pvc legging and skellerup gumboots.
    Never got wet or cold

I started with a waxed cotton Barbour jacket & pants (red tartan lining), hand me downs from my Dads trial's days. No flat cap though. Steel toe cap welly's (gumboots), Bell open face helmet in metallic bronze & some seriously vintage gloves made from dinosaur hide. Nothing was waterproof & fitted only where it touched. Bring back Dubbin I say, water resistant for up to a whole minute.

I've got a set of racing leathers from about thirty years ago, hand me downs from an old mentor. Been sitting in his garage for about as long. In need of a good oil, and I'm sure they'd be good as gold! Pretty hilarious to put on every now and again, with the baggy bum space and all.

It's pretty nifty when you look at how far racing gear has come since the old days.

I was given a Scott leather jacket when I got my first road bike, no collar, no body armour etc & a fetching red, white & blue strip running down one side. It must have been 20 years old when i got it. I gave it away because it was'nt cool enough. I have seen the same jackets, new, going for $800 recently. Damnit.

I've never met you but that paints an unpleasant picture in my mind. No offence.

I recently bought an old belstaff riding jacket (not a Trialmaster) after a spirited bidding war.

I still have and wear my Naturalwear leather jacket (Brando style FTW) from the 80's.

I used to do a lot of riding in a BRIGHT red "Line 7" PVC jacket. totally waterproof in that it was a giant plastic bag. you were wet because you got rather sweaty inside it: gross. Windproof though. and bright yellow PVC overtrou I stole from my employer at the time.

Big Dave said it yesterday "Those weren't the days"

Now I have good gear I hate to ride unless its nice and sunny though.
