    BMW S1000RR - Unbiased opinion

    If your considering buying a new sports bike, which in the middle of winter your probably not! But if you are I would have to suggest trying out the new BMW S1000RR. They are a bit more then your typical japanese 4 but they are still much cheaper then a Ducati or an RSV4 but in comparison none of the other bikes come close for value for $$$ even if your intending on setting one up as a race bike it will save you money and you would have the best superstock bike in the pits.

    I have been fortunate enough to have spent a bit of time on one and the bike is amazing! Im sure you would have read all the reviews that seem to be everywhere but as soon as you get on you will be sold. Apparently the bike has a heap more power then the other superbikes but because the power is so smooth its really easy to tame, its like a 600 on steroids and you just blitz through the gearbox wideopen with the quick shifter its amazing!

    I find myself relying on the Traction Control in every corner, its not that i need it but the bike just likes it! Its almost better to put the bike in a rain or sport mode and just twist the throttle to wideopen mid corner and let the bike do what it wants, its un nerving at first but it seems to work better as the ECU doesnt have to try calibrate its throttle position while you try do the same.

    This bike would also be a good bike to consider for a rider new to a large capacity road bike or even someone considering a 600. If you had enough self control to leave the bike in rain mode with DTC, ABs and Anti wheely all switched on with a bit of common sence this bike it would be almost impossible to lose control due to the bike. I actually felt the ABS kick in the other day, I can only imagine what could have been if I didnt have it...

    No doubt about it, they're one quick bike alright. Bmw have ushered in the next generation of superbike. Still struggling a little with the headlight set up but other than that i've grown accustomed to it's looks provided it's in the right colour. You'll (obviously) see a lot of the tech that's on the Beemer on the next development of Japanese superbike starting with the Kawasaki ZX10 next year.

    Im interested to see the ZX10, I have heard lots of storys but apparently the only thing it really comes with is traction control i believe, still no quick shifter or the variable cam timing, big bang, electric motor etc etc.

    I tend to like being a little different so I like the light set up for that reason also having the lights a diff shape stops people saying you have a blown head light when there on dip

    If I could only test ride one to really be sure that it won't be a step backwards from the K3?

    But seriously, are they available in NZ yet and what's the price? I've add a quick look on Trademe but nothing on there yet.

    Yes they are available, there are a couple at Experience and a demo I believe. There will be another one on the track at the next round id say

    They're obviously a fantastic bike Choppa...but at the same time...you're making it look good too.
