Funny, I said this'll happen here too if too many don't pay rego....just watch, our govt is a good sheep.
In aussie the insurance only covers medical, and I know my mate up in north aussie pays around $1000 a year for rego on bike or car.
Which brings me to my last point, where is this new system unfair.....my 4x4 has gone up as much as my bike, yet I've NEVER had an injury from that, but have had a few from the bikes over the years????
I think we've just had it too easy for too long.

Hmmmm. NZ doesn't have the same cover system/s that the rest of the world has. Yet.
Nick the Prick and his cronies want to follow the rest of the world. Hence the price rises.
Lifting our game (which is all that KM has ever said) may help, but it's still a sideshow in the scheme of things the way Nick the Prick wants it.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

My mate in QLD pays $380 / year for his GPZ1000RX. Its off the road but he still has to pay reg every year to avoid putting it over the pits. No such thing as dereg like our system. maybe thats the next thing to go

    True.
Except for the fact you have not actually added up the amount you currently pay for ACC......
I currently have 2 motorbikes, a car and work for a living.........as well as that I also have private insurance........needless to say if someone said "Hey how about you pay a flat rate of $2000/year to a private company" I would not even hesitate to pay it.

No-one has raised the point of whether Oz/Canada/the rest of the world pay on each and every vehicle they own, like here.
In Europe, a rego plate is yours, not the vehicle's, so one could expect that included cover follows any vehicle that plate is attached to.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Good point, and this is the bigger issue I reckon. 1 acc charge per person per year.

I am in total agreement of this. I dont mind the increase so much as having to pay twice for two bikes

I like how everyone is comparing the registration costs of vehicles canada etc to NZ.

How is the registration cost there relative to their income? What is the condition of their roads / roading infrastructures compared to ours?

Oh, nevermind, continue justifying rego costs.

    A valid point.

Canada's per capita income is 40% higher than ours: http://siakhenn.tripod.com/capita.html

While the quality of roads is subjective, roading costs are somewhat proportionate to population density - Canada's density is only one fifth of New Zealand's - they will undoubtedly have higher roading costs.

    5 grand? fork'n'ell
Perhaps it makes a good reason to maintain a better record, but like most biker "cultures" (used loosely) it comes into conflict with legal conformity to often. Bikers, bikes and the motivations behind them will slowly change over time, with resistance....

He is just registering his XR250 this week.
    $279 for rego.
$99 of it is CTP which is compulsary third party insurance in case you injure or kill someone else.

So the $380 for the 1000cc bike must have a CTP component of $199. This does not cover the owners medical.
