It used to cost me just under $700 to register my T'bird in NSW.

So no, I don't feel hard done by in NZ at all. Worst case scenario was they were gunna put it up to what I was used to paying :-)

Now I know it's not a bike....but why does it cost $570 odd to rego my Diseasil 4wd, when a petrol one is only $325?

Because you pay 9.9c per litre on petrol at the pump as an ACC levy. But there is no levy on diesel...so you must pay extra on your rego.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

yeah but the diesel owner also has road user things as well...not a cheap vehicle at all. Man at the bike shop down the road has one and he was informing me of the costs involved. he and his wife thinking of a petrol car, trailer and motorbike will be cheaper to run!! go figure!

Shit, so even tho I've never crashed the mower I still pay acc on it????
But ok, I didn't know about the acc on petrol thing, that explains it.

You'd think that it would be better to simply add those 2 'extras' onto diesel as well, eh?
Trucking industry would go into meltdown...imagine just how much they'd be paying, with the kms they do at much higher rate of fuel consumption too.
Sucks to own a 'commercial' diesel nowadays.

I have to organise RUCs for the cars where I work. I buy 15,000 Ks per time because that keeps them in step with the service interval. At a cost of between $500 & 600 per time.

If I owned a diesel I'd buy less at a time, but then I'd much rather buy petrol and pay as I go.

Glad they don't make diesel bikes eh?
