Lightbulb Getting to and from the MMMMM for those coming from the South - 30 July and 2 August

Greetings - I have in mind a leisurely ride on Friday leaving the Lower Hutt around 9am with route to MMMMM start (mid Napier Taupo Highway) being determined by the weather on the day - if there's snow and ice forecast for the Central Plateau I'll be going via the Hawkes Bay.

Weather permitting I'd favour a leisurely ride up the Whanganui River Road to Raetehi and on to MMMMM (River Lodge in my case) - and no I don't have the confidence to punt my 'leven fiddy through the 42 Traverse on the way!

On the way home on Sunday PM I'm keen to head around the East Coast from Opotiki straight after lunch stopping enroute for the night and making the rest of the journey home on Monday.

If this has appeal to you - and you're up for my relaxed pace of riding then I'd be pleased to have you hook up. Respond here or send me a PM to agree the details.

Oh - and yes I should mention I'll be looking to do this ride on a 'budget' approach to meals and accommodation.

Looking forward to a great weekend at the MMMMM - cheers Aslan aka Stephen O

    Hi Stephen

There's a group already going the same way, but leaving Plimmerton at 8am.

I'm likely to meet that group and I think the plan is to meet Joe and Gerard around Bulls / Sanson 10ish to then head to Wanganui and up the river.

I'm sure Joe will be along soon enough with the details.

yep....friday as far as i know, at this stage,

welly boys leave plimmerton 8ish, me and ant heading for palmerston north to hook up with Gerald then on to meet the welly crew at sanson.
more than likely Wanganui river road, as is great trip north, one of our good remaining gravel roads..
we based in taupo friday night.

Aslan after the MMMM on the sunday arvo, a small group of us going east cape, hicks bay sunday night, monday, looking to visit the cape light house and the longest wooden wharf at tolaga bay, i think its in this area...subject to time camp, at mahia beach or further south.. possibly the motor camp we stay at north of napier..tuesday, ride home maybe gental annie, to be decided..

    Going to be a blast..

thanks Eddie, Steve & JMJ for your responses - I'll prolly head out to the Plimmerton meeting place at 8am Friday unless I decide to go via Hawkes Bay.

As for East Coast - those of you planning on taking Mon & Tues off have the right idea - however I need to get home Monday so my trip won't be taking as much time to take in the sights of the East Coast.

    Ciao Aslan

Well I'll probably miss out on meeting up with you guys Friday morning, as I am at work until 11.30 unless I can con management into letting me have the whole day off which isn't looking likely ( read that as a project I'm involved in is past it's due date and not complete).

I would be keen for joining you for a trip around the east cape on the Sunday afternoon Aslan, as I also need to be back in Wgtn for Tuesday Morning.

Now I just have to organise some accommodation in Taupo, might give that lodge clint mentions a ring and see if they still have some vacancies

Hey Joe and Ant see you friday am about 20 mins from here to Bulls but depends on how many times Joe wants to ride around the square to show off those panniers he's got. Do you guys want a tostie sandwich with your coffee to warm you up when you get here? Could always do the Turikina Valley road from Marton a lot more gravel than the river road just a thought. GSers

Hi there GSers, toastie and coffee sounds like a great idea may even have time for a couple while Joe wears a track round the square
I'm easy as to which way we go...lots of gravel sounds good tho.

If you can't fix it with bungee cords and duck tape, then it's serious..
