I was beginning to wonder if there were points attached to trying to kill a rider displaying an 'L' plate judging by the number of tailgaters I had struck on a couple of rides. And no I wasn't holding up traffic, by tickying at 70km either.

So I thought it over, and found the best way to be given plenty of room......it was so worth a giggle. Being a blonde finally had a real benefit.
Instead of tucking my long blonde hair under my jacket or under my helmet, I let it fly free from below my helmet...the results were laughable and expressions just classic... blonde with an 'L' plate. Just magic, plenty of room

Hate those tailgaters too. The worst for me was a twin-trailer artic about 2m from my back wheel. Being a bald bloke, maybe I should buy a big blonde wig.

A fair chunk of the whole L-plater/tailgating phenomenom is in your head i.e. you aren't very confident so the cars seem scarier & closer.
Also, you may inadvertantly be inviting some of this behaviour if you ride to the left of the lane, stick more to the right hand side - positioning yourself directly in front of the drivers sight path works well as they are then either forced to change lane position - which you copy - to see around you, or they back off - rinse & repeat until you get the desired outcome.

Another good trick is to practise your countersteering by weaving from one side of your lane to the other -after all that whole bit of road is there for your use- the WTF looks are rather priceless

Yes the countersteering trick works well for the really bad tailgaters. I deserve to be on the road just as much as them so ride to the right, claiming the road.
Can't be a timid biker way out where I live, there are huge truck and trailer units passing often, so it seems the more confident I ride, the more space they give me.

I just thought there hair trick was priceless and had to share.

My biggest gripe for the day was not on the road, but the grotty attitude of a shop asistant who was obviously intimidated by the motorbike apparel. Went in to a shop I have had fantastic service for the last 7 months or so, but today was the first time I had called in there to get milk while on my bike. Wow, what an attitude, the asistant wouldn't look at me directly, nor speak, shit I only had synthetic gear on, not as if I was patched to the eye balls in leather. And I'm a 5'2" blonde female....... a real scary biker.

In holland you would get pulled over and fined as soon as they see that, maybe even lose your license for dangerous/reckless riding.
