Couldn't resist anyway - had to ride to Raglan for a coffee before work. Great conditions, crisp clear air (55%RH)...love riding when it's like that. (Despite the fact that I forgot the dentist appointment...)

BUT. With the air temperature at 0.0c, it can be a little chilly despite double merino thermals, leathers, heated grips etc etc etc.

I find that there are certain areas that get cold when riding like that. In my case, the tops of the thighs and the upper arms often chill down when all else is toasty.

So today, I decided I'd try something. Hoteeze.

Hoteeze, in case you don't know them, are stick on pads that you buy from the chemist. Once opened, they generate heat and have a sticky side so you can stick 'em on to the cold bits. Usually for injuries but also work in the cold. They last a goodly long time too - several hours. The instructions tell you not to stick 'em directly to the skin but that's for pussies - I have never had a problem doing that.

So I stuck one on each upper thigh and no more chill.

The only drawback is taking them off your hairy legs afterwards... And perhaps the fact that using lots of them would consume quite a bit of money...

leather is usually perforated for summer riding... Hence why cordura is useful. Leather can block wind well, but almost 0 thermal ability.

well, if they have a thermal liner, I hope you removed it? Textile gear I have coming should be perfect for 0 degree ambient riding, with some extra layers

While in Japan Dec 06 (right up north, so yes, cold and lots of snow) I observed that companies get people to hand out their advertising bumph to pedestrians in the shopping areas and included in the package are these wonderful little sachets which when you scrunch them all around go all toasty hot and stay that way for ages. Designed to go in your pockets I think.

I think I saved one to bring home to NZ (prolly past its use by date!) but one freezy cold night I'll take it out on the bike with me and shove it down my pants to see if my tush stays nice and warm.

You saying about those little heat packs, my ex used to sell Avon and they had some little packs that you would click this little clicker inside the pack and then it heated up... must be on the same lines PB. There are sport packs than you can snap to activate then to heat.

Hmmm it's more in the front part of you bottom than the back PB you want warm

We have a couple of clicker type heater slickers from kathmandu, but these thingies (I still do have 2 of them in my drawer - that is drawer, not "drawers") contained something that felt like sand. Must take some piccies and post so you can see what they actually are.
