just speed up when they're about to pass you.
    Then slow down!

Yeah .. I love playing with cages that do that !

The last one was a Ford ute (V8) ... sitting on 90ks ... then sped up when I tried to pass him ... we got to 185 klicks ... I pulled alongside his driver's door (window down) and changed up a gear ... the look on his face was very funny ...

I used to get the same sort of thing on my first bike, but for some reason I found having a bike with a noisy can seemed to help. I never get abused (unless I am driving like a c*nt, which can happen occasionally) and most of the time people just get out of my way.

not all ways kitty, this biker got cut off then to add insalt cager fliped the bird
cager stops at lights bike pulls up, next thing cager is half out the drivers window did he get a fright biker said nothing he'd just hauled him half out the window & left him there looking like the he was, got back on his bike & rode off

speedo maybe 10km over, but i checked it on one of those electronic speeding signs today and my speedo was 5-6 km/hr over. So i was doing anywhere from 50 to 55km/hr. Like i said i was doing the speed limit.

I think cagers expect bikers to ride like c@#ts the whole time. I had another 4x4 right up my date this morning as we were chugging along in the traffic until this dude goes flying past us (on a black Ducati) filtering. I thought f@#k this and decided to follow and got the hell out of there! Unfortunately it may be safer or of less frustration if bikers live up to cagers expectations to ride like c@#ts. But I kind of like just cruising sometimes, but it appears this just frustrates cagers because your taking up those 5 extra meters in front of them which equals 1-2 seconds of their lives.

Not relevant to your filtering incident but relevant to the one above:
Own your lane. It's yours and you can use the whole width of it. If you ride on the left like a scooter or bicycle then cars will see you as a nusiance who is not far enough over for them to get past.

Stick to between the middle and right hand side of your lane (if not already doing so) and they tend to respect you more as another road user.

Also, if someone is tailgating too close in slower moving traffic then moving about in your lane tends to make them back off a bit. I like to practice avoiding manhole covers and white road markings in slow traffic meaning that I'm nicely weaving about my lane at times. It's my lane after all. The erratic movements seem to make them a bit wary and they leave a bigger distance.

Not all cagers are as bad as the crazy van driver you ran into. The 4x4 was probably just being inconsiderate not aggresive. Enjoy your rides but don't resent the other road users.

get in front at all costs & stay out front. Do everything possible to remain there with out getting busted for speeding or riding like a Cxxt. Much nicer ride when not surrounded.
I find that most cars do seem to half expect you to squeeze past as soon as they slow for lights etc so I try not to disappoint
PS try not to take too many mirrors with you on the way to the front.
