Wet roads, fog and spooge

On Sunday I finally got The Vixen back home. The garage is now secure and Insurance Co is happy now that bike is locked up again.

So I have been looking forward to the resumption of normal riding practices - viz. getting out there most days.

Yesterday was out because I woke up pretty bloody sick and I didn't trust either my judgment or my physical skills. So I was pretty agog to get out this morning when I woke up feeling much better (thanks in part I'm sure, to a generous shot of Highland Park last evening...). Weather has been sort of settled so I expected a dry road and planned a run over the hill to Raglan (current fav road).

Har! Best paid plans etc...got out there to find road soaked (must have been a shower early morning) and, how unusual, patches of fog as well. So the fang became a pootle once again. Changed route to run down to Pirongia and back via Te Awamutu and Paterangi Road. Every vehicle that came within twenty feet threw up a cloud of road spooge that coated the visor most effectively. All the shiny tarseal was beckoning in every bend and the patches of fog (not too thick for once) added to the lack of vision. Hafta love the cold wet season...

Oh and just a word about paint on the road. A couple of months ago a stack of paint must have fallen off the back of a truck. SH39, between Whatawhata and Pirongia and maybe further south as well, has extensive paint spills in the southbound lane. These are slippery as shit (DAMHIK) and there are a lot of them, some in shaded areas of the road and not that visible until you are onto them. So if you are riding that route be warned of their presence.

BUT. The Technic thunder gloves were nice and warm and that stupid little windscreen wiper thingie they stick on the index fingers of the glove did actually work quite effectively against the road spooge.

Now some dry weather please...

got to admit, of all the problems you mention, I reckon the road spray from oncoming vehicles is the worst. Wiping it across the visor doesn't do much.

The only good thing about my windshield is that the helmet visor stays clear of most of the road film and suicidal insects. My glove finger is good for about two wipes then achieves nothing.

I had to go to Vegas for work today and had fog from Karapiro right down to Happy Valley. My van was sliding around, so gotta feel (jealous) for you guys on bikes this morning

You're keen, Slofox. Man, the number of people driving around in white or silver cars without their headlights on in heavy Hamiltron fog is disturbing. You have to wonder if we might have some of the most retarded drivers in the country. Oh, and all of their indicators are broken

Yeah - I pulled my winter gloves out of the bike bag pocket today - retired the summer gloves for a few months .

Wot unstuck sez...never fails to amaze me either. And they blast along at speed limit or more despite having limited visibility...morons all.
