Forced off the road by Nick Smith!

    Currently I own four vehicles:

I have been adding up what costs are going to hit me now to keep them registered and stay using them on the road!

    A Motorcycle. (955i Tiger) $517.25
A small (diesel) 2ltr 4x4 truck. $583.81 (which I use mostly off road)
    A small station wagon. $281.61
    A light trailer. $35.12
    Registration total = $1417.79
Add on insurance and six monthly warrant of fitness checks? $$$!

56 years as licensed driver, two serious accidents (bike) totally my fault, one requiring an X-ray and a little Physiotherapy, nothing on the other, no other vehicles involved.

Back in the fifties I hit a pile driving truck that failed to give way and had no lights on in a narrow Petone street, very messy but other than hurrying, not my bloody fault!

Income, national superannuation and small (now very shaky) savings investment returns.

My solution other than selling them all and walking everywhere with my zimmer is:

Sell my motorcycle and quit riding motorcycles forever!
Place the diesel 4x4 truck registration on hold and leave it on the farm where I use it.
Replace 2x4 station wagon with a more universally suitable small (petrol) 4x4 vehicle.
    Keep the trailer as is.

Revamped total annual registration (approximately) $316.73 - saving = $1101.06

I hate Nick Smith with a vengeance, the fucking bastard!

Anyone want to buy a tidy 06 Tiger with a few extras? What is it they say? "Reluctant sale"!

I'm sorry to hear that, that seriously sucks... although surely giving up motorcycling should be the last resort? Or you could look to drop to something under the arbitrary 600cc limit...
Perhaps part of the ACC campaign should be to push for serious rego reductions for people who own multiple vehicles, it's not like someone who rides one bike 15 hours a week is any less likely to be hurt that someone riding bike #1 for 10 hours and bike #2 for 5 hours per week. It's a pretty hideiously discriminatory system.

There are not many who would not agree that the system is pretty damn stupid.

Surely a system whereby you pay the full levy on ONE of your registered vehicles and then a reduced rate for the others would be far more reasonable.

However - IMO They should split the ACC portion away from the rego fee.

If drivers/riders have to fund the ACC portion of the cover rather than the vehicle, this would get around the issue of many drivers/riders per vehicle.

Perhaps this could be admisistered through the driving licence register so that all drivers/riders had an annual ACC fee associated with their annual licence renewal?

Maybe this would be a way of refusing those who cannot see or have unpaid fines?

Just thinking out aloud here so no red blings thanks Comments appreciated.

All I am saying is that there has to be a fairer way!

Why would they want a fairer way when this method screws much more money out of us. They're obviously not concerned in the slightest about being voted out of power over it, so what to do ......what to do.......

ACC needs a certain amount of money to operate. The exact amount is hard to determine, as ACC seem to be broke one minute, and investing billion-dollar surpluses the next.

But, during the original ACC protests, we calculated that a 0.12c per litre fuel price increase would fund all of the ACC vehicle account.

The reason ACC does not select this model tells us more about what is going on than any politician.

    1) If ACC is funded by fuel tax, you cannot open the system to private enterprise, as you have no way of billing an individual.

    2) ACC like to use punitive levies to shape the mix of our vehicle fleet. They can and will use levies to force undesirables (like oldrider?) off the road.

Jeez, oldrider, it does suck that ACC can ruin a very enjoyable hobby like riding for you. We, too, have had to make adjustments to our budget so that we can keep both gsxrs on the road. I guess we are lucky that there was enough wiggle room to allow us to do so. I wish you could find a way to keep motorcycling, too. Hopefully you can find something else that you can sacrifice instead.

Put the rego on hold and pay the fine if you get snapped. Make sure your insurance company still covers you if you do that.

Or you can put reg on hold over winter, as I am doiing, and get back on the road in summer.
You can't give up like that, there has to be a way!
