Friendly reminder from police about ATGATT

Just finished washing my bike, needed to dry it off. Took it for a quick 5 minute spin round the street. Police pulls me up. "Wheres your leathers"? ...... ACC levies, skin peels off like paper, Harley riders are the worst...etc etc I know he's right, and it was nice of him to reinvorce what I already know. I was just being lazy.

funny thing is, when I pulled over, I could swear he had a look on his face like he just wanted me to take off, almost like he expected me to!

The policeman may well have been wondering why someone was riding your bike and not dressed for it...as in you may not have been the rightful owner.

Despite our misgivings about the police, they do pick up on the "this picture is not correct" things around the neighbourhood. The person riding a bike like that in casual clothes may well have just been an opportunist thief. Doing a runner at that stage would most likely have confirmed his suspicions.

ATGATT, is that another acronym for "Allow me to take away another of your freedoms"?

I should have been walking home on numerous occasions after being 3T by a cop, but they always let me off with a warning.

The biker cops don't wear full face helmets, they should wear them to lead by example.

Every bike cop I've seen has a full face helmet - but it's one of those ones where the chin area flips up with the visor.

He was reminding you about something you are entitled to forget.

    That's being officious, not friendly.

Well motivated certainly, and undoubtedly done in a friendly manner by a good cop.

But then I am an old cunt, who vaguely remembers when you could go about your legal business without being stopped, required to provide ID, and given a lecture.

Amazing it was ever possible really !.

I had a lovely policeman this afternoon too. WoF and rego check on the onramp to motorway at Manurewa - every car in front of me got slowed and checked; I raised my eyebrows (through visor) and he smiled and waved me through without a seconds hesitation. Lovely man!

Sorry PB, but you did set yourself up for that!

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes
