    Road Repairs: Email your council!

Well, a while back I had a moan about the condition of some of the roads I ride on on the way to work. It seems alot of the roads deteriorate over time depending on the traffic volume.
After my moan, I decided to email the councils concerned and see if the roads concerned could be remedied.
The two districts were Rodney and North Shore City. Both answered a reply within 48 hours, and follow ups within 2 weeks.
I was very pleased with the response as it addressed alot of my concerns and also raised some issues with contractors who were not living up to there contracts.
It seemed that some repair work had been commissioned some time earlier, however the contractor had only bothered to commence some of the roading work.
I am pleased to see that the route I take to work is being surveyed and repaired as we speak, and that the contractor involved is being scrutinized for some work they did that is below standard and expectation under the councils requirements.

Good effort North Shore City Council, keep it up. Rodney is a bit slower at initiating, but they seem sincere in their desire to keep roads in good order.

My advice to all, is inform councils of bad roads so they are aware of the issues. They only know about the ones they are informed of, and contractors seem more interested in profits than completing and fulfilling there contractual obligations.

I did the same think a year and a half ago, also with Rodney council. In that case they didn't fix the road - but they did erect a sign to warn about the road condition.

Like you I was overall impressed that they actually responded, and actually did something.

Waikato District roads are littered with "skiddy" signs wherever there is bitumen bleed (tar snakes). MUCH cheaper than fixing the bloody road I'm sure...

"OOoooo this road is sooooo slippery - I know! Put up a sign! Problem solved! (well, responsibility shunted anyway...)

    Squeakiest Wheel!!!!!!!!

The squeakiest wheel gets the lube. So if you want something repaired make a loud noise and follow it up and be annoying!
