if you are camping out at the event, take a torch. i had a devil of a time finding my way through the tents without breaking my neck on the lines. lol.

i didnt bother taking a hat, and didnt get burned. you might need something at the beach if its hellishly windy. most people wore their full face lids.

the really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on a detour.

Looks cool. Now I'm going to take my 1150GS up Dyers Pass and get a good run up so I can skim Lyttelton Harbour and get to Diamond Harbour without dropping a set.

Oh, don't worry about taking a hat to keep the sun off. The event is being held in Invercargill.

Take some stuff to fend off Tim, he's the mayor down there, and e's a nutter.
Oh dear, it appears some people have short memories........

Steinies don't work...and when at the bar, do not ask for "Just a Speight thanks" ...its not JUST a Speights"

if the sun is shining it will burn really quickly.

Lots of sand alright....CRC and chain lube to wash chain before the trip home.

Maps? just follow the crowd....not many roads down there.

Ear plugs ....unless you like the dueling banjos.....

Allow time for other than SH1 routes

Money, Invercargill has a licensing trust so booze seems a little more expensive, not by much. There is a 4 square on the road to the event that apparently is outside the trust boundaries thus is a little cheaper.

You tent will need good wind handling ability, and decent pegs as has been mentioned, your wet weather gear of course can be obtained from the warehouse, perfectly suitable stuff. A cap and sunnies are a good idea for the beach racing, and last year we got a bit burnt at Wyndham street races.

You can get a toy in Invercargill for the toy run on Sunday, its a good cause, I know you wont find it on the official programme but it leaves opposite the rally entrance and winds its way out to Wyndham.

Hmm what else, time would be the other thing, time to get from Picton to Invercargill, you need to decide which way you want to get there and the way back, you could travel down the west coast over a couple of days and back via the east or vice versa up to you really.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
