Aah yes now I guess that makes sense it's just that when I got my first licence (the paper one) it didn't expire for a lot longer than my 25th, 35th or 45th - it's just seems to have been a "since they brought in the plastic card licenses" thing.

Nope, it's 10 years from when you get your first full licence, which for most people would be between 16 and 18 I guess. I'll be about 26 and 3/4 when I go and get mine renewed in a couple of months.

Its way worse here apparently (Czech Republic)- the sitting of your licence takes some time - no problems with that, but the practical test(s) involve a pillion on the back on a bike with dual controls. and the cost runs to the thousands. additionally if you somehow manage to not pass, they take all other classes of your licence away from you and you start it all from scratch - and if you pass the second time around and you had other classes of licence then you have to reapply and sit and pass them also. consequently theres a few unlicenced motorcyclists here.

Why so funny? That's exactly the way it was set up, however times have changed.

That is what I was told at the AA. I got my full license when I was 18 yet I have had to renew it when I was 25 and 35, I was told that it is easier for people to remember the 25,35,45 etc than trying to guess when you got your license.

Does everyone on this forum seriously think the world is out to get them? Or just most people?

The best course would have been to update your current licence at the same time that you passed your 6F. That is assuming that you passed your 6F less than 3 months before your birthday. All licences expire on the day you turn 25, 35, 45 etc. It isn't 10 years from the date you pass it.

Mine has an expiry date of 30/03/2016 even though I turn 25 next year

Hi, this is not true. It's possible they've changed it in the last 10 years, but like I said, mine expires when I'm 26 and three quarters. I did ask about this when I got my 6F and the person at the AA told me my new license would expire in 10 years, not 2 months (if I'd known I would've done it then and there, but still complained about paying extra)

I got my 6R in mid-June, and my licence expires in early December. So I will need to do an eye test and pay for a new licence in early Dec, then probably about 5 days after it arrives in the mail, I'll go for my 6F. New eye test, new piece of plastic, new fee. It really is ridiculous. Two eye tests and two photos, about 15 days apart?

When I went in to apply for my 6L, I decided to be super efficient and applied for my 4L at the same time. I had to go through the whole licensing process twice, including two eye tests, and two photos within 20 minutes
The road to hell is paved...

Or you could just let the first one expire ...
