Mine is similar on both counts, decided what bike I wanted then started browsing and thinking the red and yellow ones looked good.....

Then one turned up for sale at the right time for the right price, so I decided that black was rather nice after all

I've never paid much attention to the colour except my CB500 which was brown. That was the least common option, most were green or gold. It doesn't sound great but it did look nice.

So I've had black, silver, brown, red, blue, blue, black, black, red. Normally I'd prefer a new bike to be a different colour to the last but the advantage of buying a new bike the same colour is that your neighbours (and your wife?) won't know you've changed bikes...

think mine's called an absence of colour !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Since I am mr fancy pants red camo pajama ninja, I shall state my colour is red, 'cause everyone knows red ones go 25X fasterer!

And as others previously have mentioned, how did I end up with black, blue and yellow bikes as well?

Also, something in silver/gray seems to be coming up fast behind me in my Big Ol'Hornets mirrors waiting to join the queue!

It was a little 400cc Monster for sale at KTL in Auckland a few months ago - they have a really nice saleswoman who is very helpful.
I wanted it but it was 10 years old and for the same money I got my VT750 which was only 6months old, and I am a cruiser girl - the old body isn't up to riding a sports bike (probably would have crashed it anyway)

I know it seems hard to believe, but the colour pink has traditionally been seen as a boys/mens colour.

This is from a BBC article on why (the hell) people dress their daughters all in pink:

    -------------------
...How different it was in the early 1900s, when blue was for girls and pink for boys.

The Women's Journal explained it thus: "That pink being a more decided and stronger colour, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl."

DressMaker magazine agreed. "The preferred colour to dress young boys in is pink. Blue is reserved for girls as it is considered paler, and the more dainty of the two colours, and pink is thought to be stronger (akin to red)."

What prompted the switch is unclear, but it had been made by the time Adolf Hitler ordered the classification of homosexuals. Those deemed "curable" were sent to concentration camps and labelled with a pink triangle. This suggests that by then, pink was associated with femininity.

    -------------------

Of course this might just be me trying to compensate for the fact that the red paint on my bike has sun-faded to a pretty pink in some areas.

Ideally I'd like a black bike with gold detailing (and a norton badge on the side). I do wonder though if they don't get hot when parked up in the summer sun?

I've had three red bikes, so despite my wife wanting the current one to be red, I went for Tahitian Candy Blue instead. I really like the colour, but perhaps not as much as the blsck VFR750 I had. It was actually "Granite Blue Metallic", which was black with flecks of blue in it - very like black granite in fact. Had gold and silver decals etc., so it wasn't quite as understated as a straight black paintjob. The current VFR needs a paintjob, so I'm kinda considering going back to black....
Or mebbe I'll just buy a completely differnet black bike...
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Look for a model I want and then the best deal and then the colour comes last. Thats probably why I ended up with a white speed triple and a grey Ducati

Didn't realise they came in any colour other than black...If I want pretty colours, I will find a rainbow thanks.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

I'm not fixed on any partiular colour scheme. I spend most of my time road riding, so I just want colours that are nice and visible - so anything except black I guess.

Orange, gotta be orange. I get the best of both worlds. A Speed Triple with a KTM identity crisis!
