Mine doesn't want to pull up in 2nd gear without the clutch, but it does easily in 1st gear without clutching it. I really don't want to start clutching it because I can see that turning nasty very quickly. It does lift up slightly in 2nd gear without the clutch though.

I'll take things 1 step at a time. I've seen far too many wheelie fail videos on Youtube to try and be a hero.

The best advice I can give is never panic and lift your feet off the pegs. It can never be said enough. As soon as you do you're over backwards. If you keep your feet on there it'll hit the ground with the tail and stop you going over. Look at all those youtube vids again....

Very rarely does a bike go over backwards. They fall over sideways once the rider starts giving up on things and lets go with feet then hands. Or in the case of my last crash, even when the rider hasn't given up, but the bike is too far off to one side to be recovered. But don't worry, you need to be going quite slow (less the 20kph) before that is a likely outcome.
