    Best route for Auckland->Taupo

    Don't want it to be too long, will have a pillion. I've done out east quite a bit (around coromandel/tauranga) Was thinking a more central route.

    Most likely I'll be doing Maraetai->Miranda, save myself the boring SH1 ride.

    SH1 to Just north of Rangiriri. Turn right to Glen Murray I think which takes you to the other side of the Waikato river, follow it down to Ngaruawahia. Turn right onto SH39 down to Otorohanga, turn right.
    Turn left onto SH30 at the southern end of Te Kuiti which will take you through benneydale and across the top of Lake Whakamaru (turn onto SH32), use Poihipi rd to wiggle your way on to the kinloch road from there and pop out just north of Taupo.

    Use map.

    I'd define "Too Long" for this trip to be over 6 hours or so

    Via wellington is the shiz bro, fuck what everyone else says, go Auckland-west coast to NP-down to wanganui-through marton-then vinegar hill to masterton-to welington-pick me up and your there !
    A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
    The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

    Auckland to Taupo is 3.5 hours down the main road, filling in 6 hours you can see both coasts and most bits in between, Devils route is a good mix.

    Cheers for the input, I'll try to cover both routes. (Or mix it up a little on the way back, I'm tempted to go out of my way on the way back just to do the Kaimais again)
