Wellington bike parks - Time limits

    Hi all,
Just heard from a mate that the bike park at the Victoria end of Dixon Street now has a time limit.

    Be warned.
I finally got my knee down! …and my shoulder …and my pillion’s head.

Bugger, I'll have to resort to bringing the SUV if they screw with my Terrace bike park.

They need extra ticket revenue to fund pot hole installations

Yeah but what's the point? So if you work late or have a team drink after work (lemonade of course) you'd have to go move your bike or get a ticket. It's not like people are going to leave their bike there over night. Sheesh! Bureaucrats!
Don't you look at my accountant.

Also doesn't help the early starters.

Although you're probably safe from the Wardens at sparrow fart.

There should be no changes to the Dixon Street bay (between Cuba and Victoria). I understand that there were a lot of signs vandalised over the weekend and maybe the contractor put up the wrong ones - I will check. Regardless of the signs, motorcycles can park in that bay at any time for as long as they like.

As noted on the other Wellington parking blog a while ago, we are going to introduce a brand new P120-limited park for motorcycles & scooters, free of charge, in the Victoria Street parking lay-by between Dixon & Ghuznee. We are putting it in at the request of Scooterazzi for its customers to use, instead of a Pay & Display car parking space (i.e. we actually get less revenue as a consequence). Having it time limited will ensure that all riders get a reasonable chance to use it during the day, rather than just a few commuters or stock for sale.

There should also be a brand new motorcycle bay going into College Street with a P120 on it near the cafe end (in addition to the all-day parking bay at the other end to replace the one that was accidentally removed a while ago).

I understand that, at the request of many scooter riders that have trouble finding parking within the city during the day, we are also converting some of the existing space in Lambton Quay to P120 (but not all of it) as a trial (Councillors will decide on that tomorrow morning). If this works, then we could look at possibly doing this in other locations as well in support of those riders looking for casual parking spaces. No changes will occur during the day after people have parked - we're not that cruel :-)

There are quite a few changes and new spaces pending for motorcycle parking in Wellington so those with an interest should keep an eye on our public consultation pages (see "Traffic Resolutions"):
    http://www.wellington.govt.nz/haveyo...put/index.html
The only reduction that I am aware of is the Mercer Street change as part of the Golden Mile upgrade. On balance, the total number of spaces available continues to increase from year to year. As previously advised, we are continuing to review how parking is managed within the CBD, and when we get to reviewing motorcycle parking this will be put out for public consultation and I will post a link so that all of you have the opportunity to contribute.

    Kind regards,

Thanks for the update Jon, the changes sound reasonable to me. I can understand the potential frustration of not being able to find a park during the day. Especially near a motorcycle store.

I totally support this action. I pay for parking during the working days (Although it is a damn sight cheaper than parking a car) and find it annoying that when I need to shoot down that end of town for something that all the space is being used. Having a casual area is a great idea.
