And why would a cop ruin the rest of your day by letting you know you have just got some (more?) demerits???

What discount for bulk offending ????

    Yeah fucking right ...

There is no discount for bulk offending ... they can charge you with every offence they can find if they are so inclined ...

    JUst an example....

186 burglaries, 2 years imprisonment. ON appeal, it went up to 5 years imprisonment.

1 charge of burglary carries a 10 year imprisonment penalty. This was 186 charges.....

    No discount for bulk offending...?????

    YEAH.... RIGHT.....

No - you just lost track of what was actually asked. It wasn't what agency administers the demerits: it was whether the application of points arising from a number of offences arising from a single incident was determined by law or Police. It's clearly by law.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

Just an update to what happened. So. Ended up just hardening up and paying the fine. Had a look at the legislation and it stated that you only get demerits for the highest demerit amount. (27km/h over the speed limit in a temporary 60). So only got 35 demerits. .

Also called NZTA about the fine and they also said that the only way you would get multiple demerit charges is if the cop made a mistake putting the fines into the system. Which is an error by the cop. And if taken to court, would be won pretty much straight away.

So just a note for anyone else ending up in the same situation here's something to help http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/p...DLM435009.html
