KTM s win of the manufactors title in the FIM with a 350 must really concern the Japanese factorys who have been refusing to re tool to make 350 s. There is a new eare approaching how long will the hide in the sand.

i have heard from a pretty big KTM Fan that would know that AC bikes is more like 420cc , and that alot of the 350cc running in the top european series are big bored
Since the Europe rules are much more open than the US ones it could be why Alessi is struggling a bit in the states, the one time holeshot king has got 1 holeshot all year and sometimes is out of the top 10, which was hardly ever the case
(in the US they run form of production rules, and one of them is the fact that the bike has to run the standard bore and stroke)
A story I got told is the GNCC guys run 450's as much for the ability to pass as the performance ( 250's are pretty much as quick ), I wonder if the same would apply in MX, Alessi on a 350 might have the speed, but not alot of use if he can't make a pass stick.
true words spoken there,
i think the MXA aritcle puts it best when it say that it will suit vet riders, in the US and the world champs i would have thought those were the guys that could ride a 450 to its potential,
the other down side is the fact you have to rev it to get the power out of it, meaning since it revs like a 250F, you will have to rebuild it like a 250F
and then they will be heavy like an xr600
as if 4 strokes werent heavy enough as it is.... lol
im plenty big and strong to ride a 450, i still done enjoy them though.
i just love digging at them too.
and yeah there is a day when bikes werent heavy, mid 1990s to around 2002 in most cases
This is just like road racing back in the 70s - everyone except Yamaha had a 750, Yamaha was running the TZ350s and winning (a lot).
Dr Gordon Blair of Queens University Belfast did a lot of work analysing the ideal race engine, with weight, power, tyre wear, fuel use, rider fatigue and much more. he found the ideal engine was about 360cc.
Blair still does a lot of work with engines : http://books.sae.org/author/1073416002
