    Damn gravel!

So in my attempt to ride to Raglan with Firefight this morning I had a run in with some gravel. I am okay, the bike is okay(ish) but I decided not to carry on to Raggaz.

Anyway, I have a snazzy phone-camera so here are some pictures...

This is the corner in quesiton - I basically came at it a little fast, underbraked, and hit the gravel. It should have been okay, I took many corners like it at similar speed, but this one just didn't like me.

My jeans - not Draggin's unfortunately, but they did okay this time. The reddish stains are blood from my cut knee. They are in the wash at the moment, we'll see it that stain will come out.

This is where the right indicator used to be. It's not there anymore.

My front right fairings. They are more scratched than they used to be. I am claiming that I don't like their bumpiness and am trying to sand them flat - you can believe that if you want.

My exhaust. Deffinately didn't look like that before. It still has a few little stones in it that I can't get out. I will worry about that later.

It's bent, but it still works - not that I use it often. I think I will be taking to that with a hammer very soon.

The x913 badge, I think it looks cooler that way. I might just leave it like that. You know, for street cred.

Thanks very much to Firefight for taking me along for the ride, and for having a first aid kit. That was very helpful.

Ouch. A nice reminder to me too that I should always put my riding pants on and not my jeans, even if its for a 'quick' trip.

Hope you're feeling better soon. I'm definitely not looking forward to ever dropping my baby (fingers crossed).

And the scratched on the logo - they do sort of look like motion blurring don't they?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Sorry to hear/see about the unfortunate Sycophant. I had an identical spill a while back. Its bitch when you hit the gravel and there is nothing you can do about it till the bike falls over (At high speed ofcourse).

A good reason to get some crash knobs fitted if you can. They can save a lot of money in terms of repair bills if properly installed.

Sorry to hear about your fall Sycophant. I hope it doesn't put you off.
It is always a hard thing seeing your baby lying on the road scratched and broken no matter what. Glad you weren't hurt too badly. Good on you FF for being there and being prepared, he's a good KB'er.

But, if it is any consulation my bike was knocked over today at the dentist.

It was parked by itself at the end of some parallel spaces but some F'ng cow in an SUV!!!!! decided she needed six spaces to reverse into and then my bike was in her way as well. Over it went, damaged mirror, bent handle bar, scratched anodised alum bar end, scrathes along the length of the fairing end to end and a snapped off anodized rear set.

"I didn't see it" was the response, then "sorry, you shouldn't be parked there anyway, it's for cars". So after refusing to cooperate I called the cops and THEY CAME within 5 minutes.( I will write a letter thanking them). They told her it was her fault, too bad, so provide the info or they would arrest her. Thank you boys in blue!!

NO license, no insurance, not her car, was her sister's , took it without permission, wasn't sure if she had insurance, blah, blah, blah. Now it's up to the insurance company to sort out but I bet it will cost at least $1500 to fix.

And I didn't even get the joy of a ride in the country before hand. Just goes to show it can happen any time, anywhere.

Sorry to hear BB, and Syco.

Take heart. Bike can always be repaired or replaced, bones heal and chicks dig scars.

It is good news that neither was seriously hurt.

I don't know what is worse:

    • Damaging your pride and joy through a stupid mid corner lapse of concentration
    • Damaging your pride and joy while getting your teeth drilled

Neither is desireable - as for the lady - where is Jake the Muss when you need him.

Sorry to hear - it seems to be that the silly 'minor' accidents are the ones that cause the most nuisance factor as well

    Hi BB,

An interesting thing I learned a couple of years ago is that if your vehicle is parked and in clear view it's ALWAYS the other persons fault if they hit you. Even if you were parked on a no-parking area or what-ever. I found out when some guy tried to BS me saying I shouldn't of been there, in the end he had to foot the bill.

If it makes you feel any better I was in a shop 4 weeks ago when some teenager decides to hop on my MV. But he didn't realise when he hopped on the side-stand came up so when he got off the bike went down

Now I've got minor scuffs on the left side panel, mirror, bar-end and a shorter clutch lever. I heard from a witness that the bike feel on his leg and he couldn't get out from under it He had to ask someone passing by to help him lift the bike up.

The first I knew was when I jumped on my little finger slipped off the end of the clutch lever (NZ$230!!!).

    Bugger!!
