general maintenance on my zzr

hi all, i only just got my bike a few months ago (zzr250) and was wondering where i can get a owners manual for my bike. also the oil is quite low and i would like to top it up today then get it serviced professionally in the coming weeks. i wanna know what type of oil to use and if i can get it from repco or do i need to go to a bike shop? thanks

You need 10/40 or 20/50 oil for your bike. Repco stock bike oil. Do not use car oil as it can cause clutch slippage. You can use diesel oil as this is very close to motorcycle oil and has no friction modifiers.

P.S change oil every 5-8000kms filter every second oil change and you will be sweet.

I got mine from a bike shop. It's called ELF MOTO 4 DXI 20W50.

I paid $24 for 4 litres. I have the same bike as you and I have no problems. Even had a magical day at the Taupo racetrack on it.

You can spend as much as you want on oil but I'd recommend the one I'm using.

It appears from your questions that you have never changed your oil before. Incase you feel like doing it - it's real easy - just look underneath your bike at where the oil sump is and you'll see all the bolts that need taking off. 10 min job once you're good - 30 mins tops - from taking out your tools to packing them back.

You'll also need to change your filter as you change your oil - $15 from any bike shop.

wow thanks for the help, and soo quick too. i ended up getting 4 litres of castrol gps at repco for $50 that seemed a tad expensive, but i needed it so it doesnt matter. im just gunna top it up at the moment then do an oil change when i find a oil filter. thanks for the help justsomeguy and XTC

By the way I plan to do a service next week - I'm service crew (probably window washer) for one of my mates a rally driver at the Targa.........and I gotta ride down there....

Whatever you do do not split the cases and remove the engine internals to change your oil like those pics show
