    What gives with Ch-ch bikers today?

    Three dafty moments today;

    1 someone in flouro on a learner sized commuter, trickling up the bicycle lane on Columbo, approaching brougham from the south in rush hour. Unnecessary, illegal and he clipped a dark coloured station on his left and kept on pootling - driver made to get out... but changed his mind.

    2 someone on a transalp / tenere type coming south on Columbo in through the beckenham lights / cones. Passes queued traffic next to the hurricane fencing with little room to spare. This was a spot where people are gawping at the damaged buildings, negotiating limited lanes, parked and queued cars and shopping precint entrance - between two sets of lights. what's the point?

    3 last one another learner type commuter overtakes yielding cars and bike waiting to turn left into Centaurus from St Martins road coming south. there was northbound car waiting to turn-right-across, and might have done had he not seen the bike doing that stupid move. sure he didn't cross the yellow, but again, why bother. Then again, I've seen the Orbiter make the same move AND cross the yellows...

    man, I like to motor on, make progress, take control on the road, take opportunities and so on, and I take some moves that might look daft to drivers some times, but I like to think maybe I don't make such a numpty out of myself.

    Every one of these moves would have pissed off a car driver today.

    Done.

    I was good all day and I bet no one noticed. I even slowed and waved a cyclist who was trying to cross my lane to move in front of me. I hardly even speededed ...

    Flouro makes you safer. The rider was immune to anything... Perfectly safe.

    After the Loma Prieta quake (1989, magnitude 7.1, San Francisco) the only way to get around for the following few weeks was by foot or on two wheels, and the number of motorcycles that got dragged out of mothballs was incredible! Needless to say there were lots of really stupid moves made by relative novices, and lots of injuries / some fatalities. Frustrating, but it just comes with the territory.

    When the roads were cleared off the number of stupid moves returned to the usual "too many".

    It's interesting that San Francisco added motorcycles and local riders clubs to its disaster preparedness plans after that.
