Narrows Bridge closed - near Hamilton Airport (16 September)

Heads up - the bridge is closed until further notice - damage to the foundations.
This is the small humpy bridge on Airport Rd between SH1 and SH3.

Obviously more damage than they thought. They dropped it to one lane a couple of weeks ago while they carried out engineering assessments to minimise the weight on it. haha too little too late by the sounds.

    Yep, flooded now.
Not sure how long that will be, especially with the weather supposed to be really filthy this weekend.

I heard it was the underwater area as well...bridge has been there since about 1920 someone told me...

Dammit, that's a great corner going west off the bridge. As long as no idiot is across the centre line coming the other way...

Closing it makes it harder for me to get to Scotsman Valley for the morning fang. This morning I had to go south-west into the wet bit instead...bastards!

it's not the bridge underwater - just the foundations. it's just the river doing what rivers do. i cycled it this morning - it's not like it wobbles or anything! i'm picking they'll drop the weight down to under ten tonne or something until a permanent fix is done - probably when the cambridge bypass is started in 18 months i reckon

We had an old single lane 70 year old bridge down our road and the council replaced it this year. Bloody good. Gotta admit, the Waipa Council is doing some decent shit lately with roading so hopefully they won't leave it too long before sorting it out. It's a pretty busy road.
