Hi all, here's my first attempt at filming on the bike. I went out for a quick ride over the Paekak Hill this afternoon and rigged up the video camera in the tank bag. The positioning isn't great but it's good enough until I get around to making a decent mount.

Fantastic mate, if you are interested in bike cams, maybe think about a bullet cam connected to you camera.....if its mounted in the right place the cops will not see it

I got myself a bullet cam which mounted on the front/side of the fairing, just under the mirror, the camera was located under the pillon seat and cables run through the bike behind the frame...works great...

I though about this kind of set up but I doubt I'd get the capex approved. I managed it to buy the video camera (cause we really needed one to take home movies of the kids that we don't have yet) but I don't want to push my luck.

I'd be keen to see some of our vids.

some of my vids are about 2 to 4 meg,,send me a pm with an email address and i'll send you a couple, thats it your email can handle big files...??
has the wife seen the footage yet...try and get her interested, how old are your kids, maybe owkr on them.....

Don't have kids yet...sold it on the future promise.

She was on the back of the bike when I took that video and she's seen the footage but I want to buy a DVD burner next (to make home DVDs of our kids) and I'd be pushing shit uphill to try and convince her that we need a bullet cam for similar reasons.

Not saying that I'd put them back or anything, but kids + video camera, or no kids, no video camera? Hmmmmm.

Heres a small clip. Do you think the quality vs size is ok?

What is the biggest movie file you can upload to the site? I'd like to see more people posting their movies just so you can get an idea of roads.

The camera saves in an MJPEG format and when you edit and save it the file actually comes out bigger in Mpeg format. More frames per sec or something. That why I'm trying wmv. Maybee if I just post the unedited file from the camera but then I picking people might not have the codec to make it work. I have a Matrox card that uses this format.

Any suggestions appreciated.

That's not too shabby an effort. Saddle Road ascent from Ashhurst. The STeed loves going up there, almost as it likes the ascent from the Woodville side! What's the road surface like at the moment?

Theres a few patches of loose chips on some resealed parts and some patches that havent been sealed. But theres also some very nice bits without any problems.

The Pahiatua Track is very crappy where they have just resealed it (potholes and all the road surface lifting) Whoever did the roadworks stuffed up bigtime as it worse than when they started now. But there still is some good road on the way up there.

I think the best ride around here is out to Mangaweka via Cheltenham. Theres two great roads to choose from.

Yeap its a 4 mega pixel Cannon IXUS. Records for about 2 mins or so then turns itself off. 42 meg file. Will have to experiment a bit more to find out what works best.

Garry, how'd you keep the wind noise off the recording? Was the camera just sitting in the right place for the wind to get deflected off the screen and above the camera?
