About 800km. Had brand new rear tyre, and there weren't even enough corners between chch & Oturehua (Brass Monkey) to scrub them in fully. I've since managed to scrub them in and chicken strips are now only 6mm.

Their objective was to ride down Argentina to the resort of Baraloche, cross into Chile, ride up the west coast into Peru, spend some time helping at a leper colony and eventually end up in Venezuela. Granado was a 29-year-old biochemist at the time, and Guevara at 22 was one term shy of completing a medical degree. This was to be a "road trip" before they both settled down into their respective careers, marriage, etc.

The movie combined both Granado and Guevara's diaries and the story is told more through the eyes of Guevara than his travelling mate. Hardly surprising, given the latter's fame. It is a journey that profoundly affected Guevara and set him on the path for which he is more famous.

The motorcycle only features in about the first third of Granado's book (which I've read) and the movie. It was a post-WWII Norton 500 and finally gave up the ghost after being dropped once too often in Chile. From that point our heroes took to their feet.

Granado also went on to great things in his life but not as spectacularly as Guevara.

The movie is subtitled, but don't let that put you off. It captures well the innocence of youth and subsequent coming of age of one of the 20th century's more influential and misunderstood people. The actors were well cast. The cinematography is outstanding, giving a great sense of mood and spirit of place. I recommend it highly.
That sounds good, I'll make sure I see it.
You soon forget that a movie's subtitled if it's good enough.

Two of my favourite filmus of all time are subtitled, namely Jean De Florette and its sequal Manon de sources. Filums immortalised by the ongoing Stella Artois perverts - sorry adverts.
