Oggy knobs are nice'n'all, well made etc... Here's another possible option, google "F1 engineering" or "Rapid art" and check out if they make frame sliders for your bike. I looked at Oggy knobs for my ZX14 and it was going to cost over $500, the ones I got from F1 engineering are well made and cost me $267 from memory, just over half the cost anyway, best of all they're Kiwi made!

    Hell yes.

The F1 Eng framesavers on my Hornet saved the tank and rad from a 70 or so kph lowside on a trackday at levels. theres a photo somewhere. they are the bomb.

Just dropped my Gixxer the other day at about 60ish and watched it slide on down the road (about 10m).

Went over to inspect the damage and all it had was a bent brake lever, worn down muffler and a worn oggie knob.

mine cost only $400 fitted, the only thing is that i think we should get a discount on the insurance if we have them fitted, not even star gives one.
If i didn't have them on the bike would have been in a much worse state.

My gixxer had Oggy knobs attached when I bought it, otherwise I would've had them fitted. They've saved some of my friends' bikes from more serious damage and expensive claims.

For higher speed work Im not totally convinced that Oggies and the likes are the answer. I prefer case savers which protect the engine and slide rather than digging in.
I think overly protruding oggies are likely to cause a single point of impact that the bike can spin around rather than sliding.

Frosty does have a point, I've seen bikes written off primarily because knobs were fitted. They get pulled out of the frame, or cause frame damage, sometimes at quite slow speeds. Frame damage, usually sports bikes almost certainly means write off time, due to cost of frame and labour.

Indeed, this is something I've thought about too. I've already got the knobs though so am looking for case savers to fit my model gixxer.
