Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

I haven't had a bug in the eye at speed but I did have a bee manage to get through the gap with my visor at its lowest point without being fully closed. I saw a flash of yellow and black then the bugger was inside my helmet. The little bastard buzzed around for half a second then stung me right between the eyes. I was at low speed so pulled over safely, removed the helmet and the bee. Got home and used an ice pack for the swelling. Luckily I'm not allergic to bee stings but right between the eyes was bloody painful and puffed up uncomfortably for a while.

Yeah .. the biggest thing is EYE PROTECTION .. insects, water, dust and dirt can all get in your eyes ... potentially causing an accidernt ...

I always ride with shades .. then I can open my visor as little or as much as I want ... tho' over about 140 the wind on a fully open visor the pressure pulls your head backwards ...

Don't replace the missing visor with another tinted one .. get a clear visor and ride in shades ... then if it's dark you can take the shades off ... much harder to take off a trinted visor when it gets dark ... and if you try it's harder to see and if anything hits you in the eye you're stuffed ...

I do miss my tinted visor.. it makes me more mysterious on my bike. But for now the clear one will do. I've heard good things about the dual visors and the guy who parks next to me has the Illuminating Shark Helmet which has it. It looks pretty cool.

Every time I go along that stretch of highway I always sigh. I used to polish that visor every couple of days at work when I got bored. SIGH..

    visors

I would never go back to an open face helmet.
The two or three major falls I've ever had, every time the lower front part of my helmet has been road-rashed. Scary if there was no cover there.........

personally, i think the brain knows how to protect you. ive wrecked once in an open facer and my helmet didnt have a single mark on it from the crash. "i" had no control over my body while crashing, except deciding to jump over the car when i hit, but i think my brain did and took over, if that makes sense? like, it knew where the vulnerable parts were and reacted. a closed face doesnt feel so at risk, so it gets ignored somewhat. others will speak to the contrary, which is all good... everyone has their opinion, but i have no other explanation as to why i came away with very little damage. i was riding in a singlet, cownboy boots and jeans. no gloves. my upper body was fine... a tiny nick on my thumb. my legs copped it the most and they were the most covered.
im the same with illness and injury. drs and pills can get stuffed... humans survived for thousands of years without panadol and neurofen. i just let nature take her course.
