Radar detector

I have a Beltronics RX65 Pro, and I've had a look at mounting solutions for my CBR250. I'm not prepared to buy one from Radar Direct as they are a rip off, and Trademe doesn't have any. Will it still work properly if I put the detector in the glovebox under the passenger seat?

I got a mounting system from Ram Solutions. Always had good service from them.

Yeah it'll still work, how much the performance will reduce, I can't say. Any receiver works best if the LOS from the transmitter is clear.

If it does laser band it needs LOS to work...

I'll buy myself a cigarette lighter socket, I'll put it in the glovebox with my radar detector and test if the performance is acceptable.
I'll try and find one of those 'false radar' things that set the detectors off on the Ka band. I think they have one on SH1 between Belfast and Kaipoi and I'll see how it goes.

What sort of system does it have to let you know when it goes off? My TPX has an LED cluster that mounts on the dash plus a wireless headset that chirps in your ear...

It chirps when it goes off, and the lights on the screen also show the band it's detecting. It also has an audible alert saying which band it is detecting. Mine has a 3.5mm earphone jack. I really don't have the money to fork out $150+ for a proper detector mount, so I'll give the glovebox method a test.

Earphone should be OK - although I do have trouble hearing mine at times over wind noise. But then I also wear earplugs. Which compounds the problem...

Radar detectors work fine through plastic, but are affected by metal. With your radar detector behind you, surrounded by a metal subframe, i can't imagine it's going to work very well.

I suppose the fact that my helmet is very noisy only adds to the problem.

I made one from a piece of 2mm aluminium, it uses the left clipon bolt to mount it.

Yea - maybe. Try it and see I guess.

In real life, I find the visual alert more use than the headset - it's real bright!

I have mine mounted behind the fairing and it works fine. V1 so it has the direction arrows on it, and it tracks perfectly, which even surprised me.
