    New member, new rider...

    Hey all,

Just bought my first bike at the start of the year, an 86 GSX-R400 in great condition at a mates rates price and love it, very easy to ride and a lot more comfortable than the 250's i tried before i bought this. I'm originally from Glasgow in Scotland, have been here for 6 years now and cant get enough of the East Coast roads

I know by law i'm not meant to be riding a 400 on my learners, which brings me to my first question. Before i got into riding I was told the law was changing from capacity to power-to-weight ratio. Is this still the case? I'm a fairly big guy and dont feel particularly comfortable on a smaller, less torquey 250, hence why I opted for a bigger bike (that and the price considering its near mint condition). I'm only using the bike to commute to work and the odd cruise around Gisborne on sundays, certainly not confident enough to be out hooning and acting like a dick. Does anyone know if this law-change is coming about or am i way behind the times, and am i gonna have to part ways with my beloved bike?

Second question, does anyone know of anyone/places that does rider training around Gisborne? Or even just someone i could go out to ride with that could give advice?

That law change is just a pipe dream as far as I'm aware. It will take a few years before it is enacted, if at all.

make friends with someone on a 250, and borrow their bike for licence tests.

keep fingers crossed and act like a cage the rest of the time
