RSVR turns 57

Well finally got my Netherlands mate to send me a set of 57mm Throttle bodys & long velocity stacks & custom eprom to suit which he writes & designs himself off a 06 -Tuono to replace my 51mm standard ones & have just finished putting them onto my bike tonite . Bike fired up straight away & idled at 800rpm from cold which is pretty low for a big twin but since it was fueling so well it didn't seem to mind but turned the idle up to 1200rpm while it warmed up to 74 degs . Throttle is very crisp & instantly returns & holds its idle after a big blip to 8000rpm which is excellent . If the weather holds out enough over the weekend I will be able to go out & see if I need to adjust the fuel pressure & injector timing etc to get it runing any better if it needs it but from tuning mine & others I can tell it is pretty much right on the money now . The size difference off 6mm gives my bikes with all the other modifications I have done anywhere from 6-8 HP rigth across the rev range & even more with a custom PCIII map so looking forward to trying her out . Ok weather held out enough to get the old girl out for a road test , but as the rear tyre was nearly had it it wasn't much fun with slightly damp roads & no tread , End result was 3rd gear wheel spins at ease even on the dry road ! Where possible the bike pulled like a fucken Train till it got to 6000rpm where it just took off to 10,800rpm without even looking like it was running out of drive , fueling at 50k is near perfect with ultra crip responce & floor less smoothness & the sound of the modified air box intake & longer velocity stack is to die for . Will pull the plugs out later to check their colour . Have set the fuel pressure to 49 psi at this stage as this is what most have being using with this mod & will leave it there once I get to see the plugs condition but they should be sweet . New tyre time this week with a matching M5 rear to go with the M5 front & then some dry roads hopefully to be able to get some of the new power down onto the road abit more but I feel it may be a big ask going by how much more stronger it is running now , don't ya just hate that !!

Well not one to leave things alone , got hold of another Aprilia mate that races a 01 RSVR that he is selling along with his X-Stroudy GSXR1000 SBK bike which are both on Trademe I believe , anywho since his RSVR
has had afair amount on Dyno time with 2 different setups , one being a blended single map with the 500rpm increments for the fuel table mapping & the other a Dual map with 2 seperate maps 1 for front cylinder & the other for the rear which is the only true way to tune a V-Twin due largerly to the discrepancies between the 2 cylinders because the rear cylinders run hotter & often need more fuel . And since my bike now has the 57's on and very
close setup I asked if he would be keen to send me copys of his PCIII maps which he was happy to do but only for my use which is fair enough as for the $900 he has paid to get both mapping dyno's done . Have loaded the Single fuel table map into the unit which made 129rwhp on the rollers & was rapped with the smoothness & masive power low down & through the mid range which is where the RSV's can lack abit in stock form but was nice & crisp throttle responce , so tonite I loaded the Dual map into the bike & fired it up , straight away the engine tone was different with a real boom to it & picked revs up so quickly it was almost Inline-4ish . This Map produced 136RWHP . The big difference was the 250rpm increment fueling over the 500rpm increments it is by far the smoothest V-Twin I have ever owned or ridden with floorless fueling with even more power delivery from idle right through to the 10,800 redline without running out of drive . All in all a bloody excellent result for the RSV & now just have to take her to the yearly Drag's I put her in & see if I can better my best time from last year

I bet she sucks back the fuel at a big rate too on that new map.

I know when I got my SV remapped, made it very smooth and more HP, but on the downside got crappy economy, but thats not what its about.

smiles per gallon vs miles per gallon, I know which one I choose.

Surprisingly with the single map it was around 40k better so hope the even more finer tuned Dual map will net abit more K's , can easly get the fuel light on at 120k's when it is being given the Beatdown !! so anything over that is all good for me .

Yea the 03 tuono is just a RSV/R Mille without flairings & a set of motard bars . Have tuned a customers Tuono with one of my old Akropovic mufflers & special Race Eprom & it goes hardout masssive wheelie machine & hoon toy . They run the same Rotax V-Twin so what works on the Mille works on the Tuono but with abit different setup . 04 models onwards come standard with 57mm throttle bodys , mine where off a 08 Tuono .

Two easyish ways... SB8R throttle bodies are 59mm, and SV1000S 2005- ones are 54mm.

Or you can buy 60-62mm Aprilia ones or as some have done on some of my Aprilia sites made a 65mm shower type using the stock injectors . There is a Billet 70mm set for 1060cc + motors & another special unit for the Supercharged Rotax kit

Thanks, somehow I'm guessin' the SV's are gonna be a lot easier to get hold of than the Bimota jobbies!

That would be my guess, although if you talk to 98TLS, he's in the know on who might be able to find some... You could make some shower types from carbon like above, but you might as well do the whole job instead of half n half like those ones (i.e. make the bores carbon too, like the Britten IIRC). I wouldn't bother going too big though, the factory (SV) 54mm ones will take you over 135rwhp, and much over that means you should buy a second 1098 anyway

/edit: Actually, a guy I know in the UK has been working on perfecting carbon fibre drinking cups... his experience on demoulding vertical wall cylinders whilst leaving the part flawless would probably be good to hear, if you were looking to cook up a couple of carbon throttle bodies...

Yep, the smart thing to do is just accept an interesting old bike for what it is, and if I start talking to 98TLS then I'm in big trouble, lol. But then I'm not very smart.....
