I know that Smiths Motorcycles, 153 Durham St, Tauranga (ph 64 7 578 6062) hire bikes, though I don't know what range they have nor have I ever used them. You could ring them, I think I've got the international code for NZ right.

Bike hire in New Zealand is insanely expensive. If we look at GOONRs link we can see a GZ250 being hired out for between $100 and $70. At $100 dollars, if you were hiring for five weeks it would be $500 cheaper to buy the bike outright http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-324410067.htm and then just throw it in the rubbish at the end of your trip, at $70 per day, 42 days hire would pay for the bike outright. Best option is to use a buyback scheme.

If a Harley or a Buell is what you might want- then Bularangi- motorbike tours of new zealand have a bike for you.
They are 1/2 way between Tauranga and Auckland In Waihi and will deliver a bike to Auckland for you .www.motorbikesnz.co.nz

We have friends coming out next year and have gone through this.
Ardmore was the cheapest. had looked at buying outright but with the insurance i works out cheaper to rent, but not by much.

You're right, the prices to rent are ridiculous!

looks like about $3500 nz for us to hire stx1300 which will do the job for us . were looking at bringing our rocket over but the cost is more than that so better to clock up the kays and wear an tear on someone elses bike .
