    Bloody Wellington riders

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4251...ase-in-crashes

dragging the rest of the country down with their poor riding ability.

Seriously thoiugh, same old shit reporting with one side of the story. Easy to quote stats without proper in depth analysis & information of causes.
Whilst any number of deaths is too many, is 3 over 5 years really that bad? (how many in police chases?).
Shaken, not stirred in the shakey city!

I saw a guy hooning down Willis St this wet morning on some sort of grey supermoto-style bike...in SHORTS. Hmm.

But seriously...1100 bikes, 304 crashes. That's over 1/4 of the bikes commuting in!

What we all want to know is - how many were caused by the riders?

No, what it said was there were about 1100 bikes commuting in DAILY. But there were 304 crashes in the wellington region over the last 5 years.
Neither of the figures have anything to do with each other.

    Piss poor reporting.

    Around 30%, perhaps less.
Intersections are where we tend to get taken out. And that's where car drivers tend to be at their worst, when it comes to not seeing us.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Indeed it is. How many cars do the same trip, coupled with their crashes? There are LOTS of panel beaters in the area....

That's true. The number of bikes commuting in does not necessarily follow the same trend as the total number of bikes in the region. Total bike numbers may have increased by far more than the crash rate.

But then again, they could have been lower too. So basically what this article tells us is...nothing.

True. But what it tells the (usually unthinking non-rider) readers is that bikes are dangerous.
Post a comment on the Stuff site. I did.

Usual rubbish from what passes for our media reporters.

That tosser on the beaten-up XJ550 who runs the red lights at Willis Street every morning annoys the sh1t out of me too. He doesn't give us a good name.

Wonder what the going rate is for this type of intensive work, and who pays for it?
