The left handed tourist is in the naki
What a ride, and what an awesome way to clear a blocked head. 8 days, 3000ks of which at least two thirds was on gravel. Met some neat people (a special big up to the mechanic at the Whangarei Honda dealer who stayed on to fix a broken clutch cable ) and met one arsehole (who felt it was important that he get fuel and the redneck homo BMW rider in his way should move right now )
Thanks to Brent for the bed and to Dino for the pleasure of his company on two days.
High lights, many most memorable sitting on a beach at Russel as the fog burnt off and watching a pod of Dolphin pass doing things that dolphin do best. A moment of realization of what is important
Low light, just the one, sticking my baby in the ditch Yes a poor decision was involved damage, sprained rotatercuff (or some medical word like that), about six muscles involved but I have two more weeks off work and the mother load of pain killers
Babe got dragged from the ditch by a big blue tractor and suffered some flesh wounds of her own, two stuffed panniers, some indicators minor scratches and some buggered engine protection at a glance, haven't had a surgical look yet.
Despite the disapproving mutterings of the farmers wife (something about dumb males, but at least she didn't think I was a redneck home) Some stupid bugger got back into his jacket and rode home with very limited and extremely painful use of his right arm.
So is swearing at the Boss a bad thing? probably but I think for the next two weeks he will be swearing at me
As a footnote apparently Carlos Sienz has been in the same drain

photos from 1mp phone so not that great, where photo taken on bridge is bouts where braking comenced, the sign post ahead was narowly avoided(how i dont know, but thank fuck it wasnt hit) so went to the right of that and 5m or so on was col on the bank and the water cooled GS was sitting where the great Carlos parked his rally car.
That corners caught a lot of people out sez the locals, might email the council and try getting a warning sign.
Appart from that it was a beaut 2 days ride with a naki hardcore

Like Sainz, looks like Col knows how to "back it in " also.
(Seriously though, you were lucky to avoid that wooden post).

The post was the problem mate I was so focused on not hitting it that I didn't have a plan on what to do once I got past it
The whitebait didn't show up in your pics Dino. Still haven't dropped the oil from the final drive so might find one in there
So far we are looking at a broken pannier mount, some engine protection, plus there is something funny in the gear position sensor, reads that I have one gear and a neutral position
Physio today, they are sending me to a special person Wednesday. (I know I'm special, my Mum told me ) They think I have an Avulsion Fracture, which sounds pretty flash If they stick my shoulder in a cast I will be much safer should I fall off

Glad you are back in one piece Colin,

Now the real reason you headed for the drain - maybe a sheep down there stuck in a fence......?

Cheers for that Dino, free range eggs, Yummo Should have grabbed some of those white bait to go with them.
Specialist says I need an MRI scan, cant get one for 6 weeks I have private medical Insurance but because ACC is involved Insurance wont pay so buggered if I know what I am supposed to do for 6 weeks More Physio tomorrow (which ACC say I need but don't pay for)
Might just bite the bullet and go back to work I still have enough pain killers left to drop a charging Rhino so will fill up on them each day and hope a bit. really cant afford to sit and wait until someone decides I am broken
On the plus side I dropped the oils out of the scooter yesterday F/D was a bit milky but g/box oil was good. So looks like no problems there that fresh oil wont fix
Front ends a bit of a different story Something is bent in the frame that holds the oil cooler, and headlight. Forks and sub frames look good so hopefully its no more than a tweak with a hammer, goodo type fixity jobby
Wife is talking about going for a ride this weekend Woman can be so cruel
