What a brilliant country we live in

Just had the pleasure of an Auckland to Christchurch road trip

Time was of the essence, so it was a quick blast down SH1 for me

But even that must rate as one of the world's great trips

Taupo, The Desert Road and the Kaikoura Coast were just brilliant

The highlight has to be waking on a beach north of Kaikoura with sun coming up out of the sea, and the mountains all covered in snow

The only downside was wishing, continuously, that I was on my Ducati rather than driving my wife's new Ovlov - ho hum

Its a great country - you just gotta get out there and see it

Slowly but surely I'm ticking off all the tarmac. Gotta do all the gravel bits next.

Just out of interest. What kind of time frame are we talking about? ie. How long did it take you?.
I'm thinking of planning the same kind of trip only, having never ridden that far before, need to organise enough time off work.

Totally agree, driven through Kaikoura a few times with the sun coming up and it creates warm fuzzies each time

Done my share of touring all over this fine country and i would have to say it has some of the most amazing scenery. Down the west coast of the South island is awesome. The roads a great for a bike and the scenery is terrific.
Just gotta get out there more.
    Trumpydom!
