some people don't listen and there is not a whole lot you can do.... its up to fate at the end of the day.... if they are destined to live then they do... one way or another it has a way of finding you.

I can assure you the circumstances were different to what caused the kerfuffle a few weeks back, from the reports/evidence from that ride and what I saw on this ride. Yes, it was at the wrong end of desirable results, but it happened well away from the group ride environment (if that's what you were hinting at), and is the sort of thing a lot of riders could have done riding solo.

My view was that the riders on this ride were all having a good time enjoying precious dry roads in June. There wasn't this fatalistic irresponsible mindset you two are suggesting.

The remarkable propensity for crashs is one reason why I don't go on such rides. Every time a biker crashs there is the risk of a dead biker. And every dead biker diminishes all of us. And gives the anti-biker brigade more ammunition for further restrictions .

I've not suggested any mindset. Just that crashing on the public road is a bad thing. Always

Nana's comments are not welcomed, for they are just causing unecessary misunderstandings within the KB community!

If you choose not to participate on any KB group rides Ixion that's fine, but don't think you have the liberty to make comment on them as though you know what you're talking about.

If you really thought that "no-one wanted to hear" why did you post it? I think you knew you would cause a stir here [Edit: But maybe you didn't know?].

Let's not have a debate about this please. I intend organising more of these rides and don't want KBer's being put off.

A biker will crash even though it isn't an organised ride. To prove this, there was only myself and Limmy on that stretch. The rest of the fellas were eating their lunch. So it wasn't about pace and all that other crap that has been covered. We know the risk of riding bikes and this is just part of it.

When this happened, the ride already dissolved. There were only 2 bikes. Myself and Limmy. Organised ride or not, it happened. I don't think it is fair to blame KB rides for accidents. I usually only ride on the weekend if there is a KB ride, so chances are, if anything was to happen it would be then.

i think this is just one of those cases where people only remember the bad things that happen. We have tons of group rides and they usually go very well. So I think we should all calm down and focus on the good things in life.

This is a forum and everybody can see what you type. So some thoughts are best left unspoken. It is obvious nobody goes out with the aim to crash but it happens. AND by that I mean it happens even if you ride slow and careful. In this case the only way i would have avoided the van was if i was going at 50km/h and we all know there is no chance at all that anyone would be going that slow on the open road.

Anyway...the ride is has ended. everyone is happy. don't think we need anymore comments bout anything else really.

ps: thanks mv-senna. u ride a good pace.

maybe we've misjudged you or misinterpreted your statements, but, if those negative, judgemental, and hugely inacurate sweeping statements are any indication of the type of person you are, i don't think you'd be welcomed on the rides anyway.....

my nana always taught me to stfu, and myofb unless you actually know what you're talking about. i recommend that you take this advice, and the feedback you've received from the other members throughout this thread, (who actually were present on this ride) and ask yourself some truthful questions....including why you even bother logging into this site, as you clearly don't want to participate on the rides, and you come across in the forums as a negative, narrow minded troublemaker.

MV, what you type & post is your choice, but please stick around on KB for at least 200 posts before you assassinate the character of one of the senior members here. I didn't mean to encourage such attacks on Ixion's character, he really doesn't deserve that.

Also, KB rides are an *addition* to this website. People were nattering on these forums for ages before they started getting together on rides. I've got no problem with anti-social members not turning up to any meetings & events!

As for me I thought I was doing quite well but it was kinda a fast bunch. Having not been on the bike for a while (ok I know I said that b4) it was awesome to have no pressure to try and keep up. The roads were awesome and the company was kinda ok

I think everybody who has contributed so far has made valid points.

I think we all acknowledge that crashes are bad, and that they can have real and serious consequences.

What does concern me is that, in my mind, it's becoming difficult to engage in free and frank discussion about them.

The derisive remarks offered in response to reports of a crash serve to discourage riders from admitting that they had an accident.

This, in my mind reduces the chances of them realising (with the assistance of more experienced members) what they did wrong, and prevent others from learning from their mistakes.

What are you thoughts about how to address the issue?
