    Alarm: Mongoose MCA500

    Hey Guys

I was just wondering whether this is worth it or if you know any cheaper deals then this:

Mongoose Alarm MCA500: Fitted and incl. GST : NZD 400
Mongoose Pager (Optional) : NZD 200

    Total: : NZD 600

    Is this worth it.....?

    Regards

You might want to phone around and get quotes. A few weeks back (2 weeks) I was looking for an alarm, the Mongoose MCA500. I believe by memory Red Baron and MotoMail where the cheapest at under $300 for the alarm. It's the installation that will bite (An extra of at least $150 for installation).

So instead I just brought a $99 alarm off TradeMe. Does mostly the same things.

I used to sell the Mongoose, it's a good reliable product. Mongoose quote $399.00 fitted. It pays to get their Tech to fit it, specailised bike alarm knowledge is important,.
Sorry Placidfemme, but a $99 alarm is like a $60 helmet. Does similar things to the dearer ones, but can you rely on it?

You can buy $60 helmets? Where? lol j/k

I know, but rather something then nothing. In the process of buying Wildcat's ZXR so the budget is stretched and I'd rather have something that kind of does the job then nothing that doesn't even help...

No I dont have the pager.
The pagers not a bad idea, but it has limitations. Anything that cuts RF radiation will kill it's range. Good if the bike's out of your hearing though.
They're easy enough to retrofit though.

Lou means you can fit it later, ie after you've installed the alarm. I have the same alarm, bear in mind you'll need to buy a mercury switch if you want the alarm to activate if someone tips your bike off its side stand. Also, the siren isn't very loud. Otherwise, a good unit.
