Not yet fool... the Give Way rule

I was wondering if any of you had noticed this happening recently. In the last 2 days three people have tried to give way to me according to the upcoming (new/old) Give Way rules. One person yesterday and two people today. I stop, they stop, I gesture wildly, they gesture vaguely, I give up and go. I wonder what the deal would be with this if there was a cop who spotted me?

This rule change takes place next year right? I have a full licence test coming up soon, guess I'll just have to sit there and gesture even more wildly if some fool tries the new(old) rule.

Perhaps people only pay attention to the first half of items on the news.

I almost got taken out last night by someone who obviously doesn't realise that the new law hasn't come into force yet. You have to expect this kind of idiocy though, otherwise you wont be riding for long.

Yeah. Same here. I've seen it so many times. Bloody drivers have the brains of voles most of the time...and that's prolly insulting voles...)

The rule change will take place in early 2012, i.e the year after next. They thought about 2011, but didn't want to do it in Rugby World Cup year. So in 2011 we will have
    • People still following the pre-1979 rules
    • People who are trying to follow the current rules, but more than half of them don't know what they are
    • People following the post-2012 rules (but more than half etc)
    • Unsuspecting tourists

I think they should change them at midnight tonight.

I had some fukwit decide to just blare on through when he should have been giving way a couple of days ago. Im guessing he thought the new rule was out or he was just plain stupid.

Had to pull some evasive maneuvers which normally I can take in my stride but I had my missus on the back and it was the first time she'd been on a bike in years. Luckily she didn't really get freaked out or anything.

I haven't noticed any change in the rates of people failing to give way correctly. The change isn't set in stone - it's just a proposal. I hope it doesn't change either.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

    Everybody is out get us
The standard of driving round here is terrifying & only gets worse as things heat up & get busier. I counted 37 cars turning into my street off the main road a few days ago. 35 of them cut the corner to a greater (most) or lesser degree. 6 had to swerve to avoid cars approaching the junction. WTF!
The give way rule, old, current or new is only as effective as the noddy on the road. The rules are ok really, it's the moronic attitude of some road users & blatant stupidity / ignorance of others. As bikers most of us realise we have to think when on the road but I believe a lot of car drivers after sitting their tests never think about driving again.
With the give way rule changing ( in 2012 ) a little bit of information is a dangerous thing for these people right now.
I'm saving up for a Scania wagon. If you can't beat them, squash them.

I'm the only person in The Tron who actually stops at a stop sign. Must be 'cause I'm old-fashioned or summat...

It's not because of the publicity of the proposed law changes, people were not giving way/giving way when they shouldn't long before it was mentioned on the news.

I think I work in the worst street in the country for this, I could have an accident pretty much every day if I had enough vehicles I didn't have a use for...

Cop won't do squat if he sees it, unless there is an accident in which case it'll be bikes fault for going to fast.

your on the slippery slope....next you'll be slowing for orange lights

I got told off this afternoon by a middle aged lady ( 'bout my age) for parking my bike in a 'car' space.....
I pointed out to her that the sign had no mention of cars and that as I pay more vehicle taxes than her I can park anywhere I like......
Had she been drop dead gorgeous I would have agreed and moved my bike for her.
