presume we can still get in to the edwards and malings tracks?? does that side close - josh..........josh............calling josh to the bat phone
yeah you can still get in with a phone call to DOC.......
I think you should be able to get all the way to Hells Gate on the Rainbow side which is way past the Edwards and mailings Pass tracks, but I gather you are supposed to ask DOC for access to those passes before using them. ?
There is a fairly decent mountain bike track out there now too.. St James Cycle Trail. I'm keen to have a crack at that on the mountain bike sometime.

Rainbow, Mallings and Edwards passes should still all be open until 25 April this year.

Yep, Tophouse Road remains open to access these two tracks, but they are closed on a DOC assessment basis as they want to avoid track damage from vehicles when winter time sees the tracks muddy and boggy. Normally they reopen both tracks on the 1st of October, Edwards Pass did this year (2011) but Mailing Pass was another 3 weeks after that as they deemed it still too boggy to open
Even easier now mate, just jump online, throw in your details and it spits you out both codes, great for spur of the moment trip planning after DOC office hours
