Importing a motorcycle from China?

Has anyone done this and reckon it was worth it. I know someone that can get it over for me. What i want to know befor looking into it properly is has anyone done this and can give any advice on what they had to do once it was in the country e.t.c would be good cheers,

Make sure you get all the paperwork - I have an imported Kawasaki and you have to keep all the paperwork to get it complied. As far as I know without it you are stuffed. Not too sure who does the compliance stuff - I would assume LTSA would tell you where to go for that.

I can't think of any Chinese brand of motorcycle that any sane person would want to import from China.

well havin't got a bike sorted over there, just that my sister reakons it be worth looking into getting one brought over from china as we know a guy that imports stuff from china to here, so guess she thought could get one and put it on his container, as next year I want to upgrade to different bike, does it work out cheaper do you think in the long run? but yess thinking about the could be scammed by a seller e.t.c mayby better off just gettin from kiwi land.

imho.. its just not worth it, i mean most bike in china are like 125 Gn type things, and based on personal experience, bikes dont really get serviced in china. Most big cities have banned motorbikes and push bikes alike. So only ppl in smaller cities or town would ride bikes, but most ppl in such areas cant afford or wont buy what we concider 'normal bikes'. unless ur normal is gn125s

so my advice would to either import sth cool from japan (but u dont have a person there to over look things), so i suppose u are prob better off getting a bike here locally.

omg lol just had look at exchange rate 5.80 to our 1.00 they can keep there bikes, my sister saying it be cheaper as they sell there bikes real cheap, well she means well but no thanks.

The weeks of waiting to see if the deal actually goes according to plan wouldn't be worth the amount you might save. I had serious problems and stress getting a bike shipped from Wellington let alone from one of the dodgiest places on earth.

If you get something from a local you can at least go and exact revenge for any dodginess and if you buy from a dealer you will usually get a warranty (and be covered by the consumers guarantee act), that alone could be worth the price of the bike.

Stay away from the Chinese stuff. My mate's China crap seized - they replaced the engine. It has seized again. Pathetic machines - maybe in another 10 years or so.
