2-stroke oil change

hi guys iam wanting to change the oil on my 04 kx250 and iam not to sure what to use. just want to pick a brand and stick with it. have read on the net that people use atf and engine oil but not sure if this is a good idea. if you guys could recommend what is good and where to get it from that would be great thanks!

Atf its a trans with a clutch same a an auto gearbox if you change it regular given the stuff is cheap you shouldn't have any probs or you could go buy 2T trans bike oil at 5 plus times more the price and still have to change just as often depend on your wallet size.

i use this stuff, $20 a litre, and i usually change it every 5-8 hours depending on the riding.

Most manufacturers recommend engine oil,10-30 usually,but ATF and GL4 gear oils are ok too.If using ATF I'd change it more frequently as it's pretty cheap.

if i was to use eigther atf or engine oil is there a particular type i need to use? i have read that you should use type f atf and not to use engine oil with an ec (energy conserving) rating??. i was thinking of useing that motul gear oil but just trying to see if there is a cheaper option out there that would work just as good.
and should i use something that is fully synthetic or anything will do aslong as i change it often?

standard old dexron 3 will be fine wouldnt use synthetic the idea is d3 is cheap and you just change on a regular basis if you start getting in to some of the other Atf fluid it will get costly again

i use a 10/40w motorcycle oil, i know guys that are hard on clutches fry the atf pretty quickly but you are talking top end riders, i do not think that a average rider will have any problems,

As above but i would use standard new dexron 3.

I use it because i recon its a better oil. (Clutch drag and slip) The saving in cost is an added bonus. I change regular because thats what i have been told to do, but looking at the miles this stuff does in an auto trans before changes, i suspect its done more as a precaution and a means of flushing out residue from the friction plates??? And i like the colour

my Grandad uses Hy Tran oil in his Rm 125 and his KX250.

thanks guys i just went and got some atf d3 ill just stick with this should do the trick plus its pretty cheap and easy to get ahold of it. ill just change it every second ride and should be mint!
