Hi Reece here from Sportspro.............just to clarify the Fox V1 youth Helmet exceeds both DOT and ECE testing (as do all Fox and Shift Helmets).
The Helmets we're supplied with are marked with the DOT approval but are the EXACT same Helmet as the ones with the ECE on the chin strap.
We have sent the appropriate documentation to MNZ for clarification.
FYI - Snell testing is not carried out on Youth sized Helmet shells.
Cheers
The main reason that DOT standard has fallen from popularity in most Western countries is that it is so open to misrepresentation, being based largely on an honour system - that is to say, that very few if any helmets are actually tested...........now you may understand why this 'standard' is so popular with Chinese helmet manufacturers.....
All the standards approved for importation by the NZ Govt as previously listed, require batch testing which goes some way to offering peace of mind to the potential helmet buyer.
Personally I wouldn't go near any helmet that only has a DOT standard, not only has it been imported illegally there is no assurance that it is actually safe. Just my opinion of course, draw your own conclusions!

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes
Hi Reece - Ian has emailed me through documentation which I think is what you have sent through to MNZ or part of it?
We're wanting to purchase a new helmet for our boy ASAP. Our concern is if at a club day or say Mini Nationals in Huntly and they did a helmet check would they accept that documentation for a 2011 fox v1 youth helmet and therefore the helmet be accepted?
Why on the youth ones do fox only put DOT (sticker on back of helmet) or does it have another rating on the chin strap?
We've had written confirmation that MNZ accept these Helmets meet both ECE and DOT standards. Just awaiting them to pass on that info to their Stewards.
All Fox and Shift Helmets are tested in accordance to the various testing methods. All pass.
If anyone would like a copy of these email me - reece@sportspro.co.nz
Thanks for sorting all that out Joan - both my boys helmets are DOT approved (including a Fox V1)
