WE FILLED OUR UP OTHER WISE THE WATER JUST EXPANDS IN TO THE SPACE YOU DIDNT FILL opps caps

no just block the intake its large and take longer to freeze the small end will freeze up and create the pressure. make sure the bung you fits in nice and tight i use teflon tape to help it seal and wedge it in. PS dont forget to put bag over each end as it can cause shit to squirt out makes a mess of the freezer.
