A bit sobering to be honest Jatz, considering I,m going through there tomorrow all on my lonesome.

Yea its always a worry when out alone, gotta admit that i often tell Mrs Woodman where i am going and know full well she isn't paying a hell of a lot of attention, which doesn't matter anyway cos I very rarely go where I said anyway.

Epirb you say? probly not a bad idea.

I was thinking about your accident today while I was ridng over to a job in Golden Bay.
Were you wearing any body armour under your jacket or on your hips?
I wear a pressure suit all the time & feel naked without it (tho this is only because I feel comfortable with it on & gives me psychologically a bit more confidence- I'm not becoming the ATGATT police as I believe in let those who ride decide) however I just have my work pants with a bit of soft padding on the knees.
I was wondering if you think padding on your hips could have helped a bit.

Body armour ... no, just whats already in the jacket/pants. The Rally X pants have no knee protection and only about 10mm of padding in the hips, I did have knee/shin guards on which I always ride with and I think my knees would have taken more of a pounding without them, one knee was swollen and bruised a bit, best $45 I ever spent on safety gear, they have taken a few knocks now.
I've looked at body armour often, but how much is too much for normal ADV riding, neck brace, body armour, what do you wear on hips/thighs ?

be a great "communal" buy for the NADS I reckon, seems to an outsider that you either ride together or one (and one only goes for a ride) less than a hundy in each and you're sorted!

This sort of reflection is rather familiar to me. Thoughs of Epirb/PLB, great people out there who are willing to help a complete stranger, nurses being helpful, ACC not being an issue and KB a network of great people.

I got a PLB not long after my off. One of the most expensive things you hope you never have to use but we carry it everywhere now if we are going off the beaten track, walking, 4WD, bike etc. If you really need help and no cell reception then got to be the way to go (or have a spot whatever takes your fancy).

Bloody glad you didn't have to take a ride on the old chopper (white). I'm 6'1" and they had to take the dash out to fit me in. Even then I had my toes curled up as much as my boots would allow. With your bit of extra height they may have had to remove some of you to fit you in!

My take on body armour.

I only have the stuff thats in the jacket and I reckon it is most benefishoil in the silly slow speed crashes/topple overs that we have. Hard impacts i don't reckon its much use at all.

I had a look at that tube at jatz's place on Tues and to me it looked like those splits were not caused by an accident, they caused an accident.
I guess just dont assume your new bike has been assembled correctly, I dont think even the most OCD amongst us would think of taking the tyres off to check that the tubes wernt pinched before riding it

Cheers mate, yeah Glenn went to hell and back for sure, he is an inspiration, I think a Spot 2 would be perfect in that situ if you got the presence of mind/be able to push the button, hopefully we won't have too.

Will try and avoid those fullas too eh.

I went to Dunners today to see the surgeon, all going well next Thursday they will re-operate and remove the screw, anyway best for getting better mate and stay off trademe!!!

Exactly... The pads in the jacket/pants have been adequate for all the silly little low speed offs over the years

However when crashing at "higher" speeds they were lacking, mind you I was knocked out so don't have details on how far I travelled down the road on my arse/back/side/legs/head
