go to the local vet, (your due for your shots anyhow), and get a large syringe.
Kite frame, (carbon tube), or a straw for the height setter.
A bit of rubber tube to join them together, and hey presto, a KLR riders fork oil height setter upper.
Pig riders have a more technical type, and DR riders just scrounge what they need.

Yebut... vet's have the same reputation as dentists ($$$$$), I'll give them a try though, a big F.off syringe is handy to have in the tool box, Other wise I remembered I have a few brass hosetails and some clear hose, I'll rig something up with a squeezy bottle Or reverse install an old scott oiler thats lurking in the shed

geez thats a serious spacer, good luck getting the fork caps back in with that.

I taped a longish bit of rubber hose to a long screwdriver, marked 165mm on the hose then lowered it down the fork to the mark. Once in place I sucked on the other end to see if any fluid came out.

Obviously I had enough hose to ensure any oil that did come out didn't end up being swallowed.

I'll keep the hose/screwdriver trick as plan B
The spacer is the same size as the one the mechanic at the local shop used when he sorted a 650 to go to the Burt the other year. He also recommended the 20w oil, and he's about the same size as me so I'll go with his recommendation.
He did say the caps would be a bit hard to get on, but with the forks out I should be able to get a decent/straight downward pressure to get the thread started

To measure my fork oil height I just use a torch and something long (piece of kindling last time) with a mark 160mm from one end. Put your thumb on the mark and lower the kindling inside the fork and use the folowing 3 options:

If your thumb contacts the top of the fork before the kindling touches the oil then add oil.

If the kindling touches the oil before your thumb contacts the top of the fork then remove oil.

If your thumb contacts the top of the fork at the same time as the kindling touches the oil then job done.

It's o.k. I splashed out $5 and got a big syringe from the vet. I know it was a bit extravagant, but no expense was spared damit may have a go at the job 2morrow.

I bought one of those push-down soap dispenser type pumpy things with a longish tube that screw on a plastic bottle from mega.
I just put a mark on the side of the tube and pumped it out , worked good
Might have been less than the big budget syringe, round the $4 mark I think.

When I put my new springs in, I did it at the bike shop, just in case.
I over filled them. I would say that I sucked the excess out with a length of fuel hose. But that would leave me open to ridicule and jokes.

Well...it's been a wee while since the tread had an update and seeing as how I needed a pair of new gloves (the gardening gloves weren't really cutting it). A trip to see a shop in Tauranga was needed. I made a couple of calls and e-mails to make sure they had the right size, then booked flight and ferry tickets
You'll have to excuse the picture quality as I only had my phone, and the subject matter may get a little tedious

While I was at the shop I also picked up this... Just doing my bit for the economy

After lunch and a quick scan of the map I headed towards Rangataiki pub with a short detour up Taharua rd. and Clements Mill rd, just to see what was there

I didn't go right to the end as I was sort of saving fuel, you never know what might happen
I wobbled my way back out and headed for the Rangataiki pub and the chance to meet up with some other like minded people doing the MMMMM, .chris was already there and paturoa arrived soon after so we settled in to wait for some others to arrive.
After a few beers, a huge feed and some idle chit chat, where I was talked into joining the crew for the ride through the forest to Minginui, I retired to my mattress on the floor of the dining room, leaving the rugby heads to watch some sport.
Early next morning, after another jumbo meal



I wandered out to the bike



It was a little frosty
After some more people arrived and a wee speech from Clint640 we set off to ride through the forest, it wasn't to bad, with not much ice/frost around. Met some more people at the turn off, it was turning into quite a large group .

I only took 1 pic going through the forest, I was too busy getting to grips with the big bike (nervous as fcuk ) I'm still upset and coming to terms with the fact I got smoked/overtaken by a chick on a DR200

Part way through the group split up, with some taking on the challenge section, I did one of those once and wasn't keen on repeating it on the new bike



the rest headed through the forest to Minginui and the Waikerimoana rd. I split off here to fuel up in Murapara as the fuel light had been on for a wee while.



-2 deg on the temp gauge here so I was glad of the heated grips.
