She was probarbly running from an overly aggressive baby seal. Bloody amazing how fast those things can move on land with just flippers for legs.

I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
maybe the tree needed a good hug and so she cordially abliged and got stuck to it cos of the ice...hey, it can happen![]()
....wherezz that track go
2 words you blokes Face-Palm or for those with reading "issues" ->but thanks for your concern
ANd how the hell did baby seals make it into the thread for gods sake
Read Shreks post...
I know it wasn't a "tree" she was rescued from but I used some artistic licence
Lookin forward to heading down to Chch tomorrow, hope my brake pads turn upAlso.... it's good to be getting ready for a ride and not thinking..."Hmmmm I wonder what tools I should/need to take" I tried to get to the air filter the other weekend and gave up
On the subject of brake pads....I'll go to the winge thread![]()
Seal pups up a tree? What the hell is going on down there Shrek??? Get your kids under control!
I hope Mrs jatz makes it back home safely after all the bad shit that's been going on down there.

Mrs Jatz adventure:
Day 1
Left home before it started to rain.
Stayed dry until I got to Kawatiri where I had a chat to a couple of ladys who had just come up through the Buller gorge, they told me it was blowing a gale through there but didn't say anything about rain.
Well it started to pour down as soon as I left Kawatiri and didn't stop till I got to Westport.
On to Greymouth ( hope this weather gets better ).
Very windy all the way down past Punikaiki but on the bright side the rain had gone somewhere else, so I got the camera out.
I had been told to be careful just past Barrytown as the wind hits a bluff there and bounces back out at you so you get it from both sides.
I arrive in Greymouth just as the rain decides it likes my company after all.
Day 2
I wake up and the rain has gone to play with someone else2 km up the road and it remembers me ( Oh shucks )
.So I missed the turn off to Lake Kaniere, which I thought would be a nice loop to do.But I did find Lake Mahinapua. It even has an old steam boat on display.
I carried on through Hari Hari ( it's pouring again ) to Whataroa for coffee and a really yummy whitebait sammienom nom nom ( rain stopped ).
Off I go headed for a friends cottege at Tatare for the night.
Day 3
Well guess what..... it's raining again( how fun ) and it's cold rain.
I'm on my way to find the sun, maybe Wanaka has it, Haast certainly does'nt there rain has ice in it.
Yay I arrive in Wanaka and they have sun...but they are waiting for it to SNOW !!!!
And guess what the rain caught up to me ( damn )
No pics today as it was to bloody wet.
Day 4
It snowed over night, very cold ( had to leave the heater on all night ).
Had to change my plans as Milford road is closed , Te Anau is getting heavy snow and further south is raining and blowing it's tits off.
So a phone call to Shrek first thing to hatch a plan......
Come over our way he says it's sunny over here and not windy ....yeah right !!!
So off I go to meet up with the Shrek's, alls going well until just the other side of Roxs and then it gets windy, further along the road the blow gets stronger , a bit further....stronger....stronger....gales...gales with snow
( what did he say about the weather ) I decide to ride through an open gate before I get blown through a fence and ring Shrek to come get me.
Thankyou so much.
Staying at chateaux Shrek tonight. Have to see what the weather does tomorrow before I decide which way to go.
Day 5
Got up this morning and theres more snow on the ground ( yay ), at least it's dryer than rain.
The plan today is to go through Danseys and maybe stay with Oldrider, so Shrek makes a call to some block he knows in Danseys to see what it's like in there, all good and sunny through there, then he rings Oldrider but no ones home so I'll ring them when I get closer.
![]()
Still no one home ( must be away ).Never mind maybe next time.
I have found out today that the 650 is to heavy for me to pick up ( thankyou kind locals for helping me ) just as well I was out of Danseys by then or I would still be there.
I decided to head to Omarama for the night.
When I get there the first thing to do is ring Shrek and Jatz to let them know I'm okay, then Timg to say I'm heading to your place next....buddie buddie.
Then tea and bed.
Day 6
It's a stunning day here today.
The original plan was to head over the Haka but since I can't pick up the bike and it's a low traffic area I'm heading to Fairly via Twizel.
But first breakfast at the frizzy sheep???
The lady at the camp recommended it and the 3 egg omelet was very yummy.
Wilst there a man came to have chat and was telling me about 2 friends of his from Wanaka that were riding from Alaska to Mexico on DR650's ( Andy and Ellen ), had I heard of them ?
He was surprised when I told him that I knew them and would have stayed with them if they hadn't been away.
After breakie it was back to the road.
Tekapo via the canal roads is nice.
Poped into the church and had a talk with the paster who told me they can have up to 700 visiters a day. The busy wedding season starts now and goes till April with up to 4 weddings a week. It's a must go into just to look at the view out the window.
I then carried on to Fairlie for gas, off towards Methvin for a much needed coffee, I then took the road that goes through Windwhistle nice twisty wee bit of road.
I arrived at Timg's place for the night. Thankyou so much for having me again.
Day 7
Late start to the day, waiting for Jatz to arrive in Chch after leaving home this morning.
We eventually arrive at the same BK after I go to the wrong one on highway 1 oops.
After a quick bite it's off to Akaroa for the night. Nice ride out there to.
Jatz took me out for tea at Bully Hayes, I can recommend the pork belly ( pork fat ), and I'm sure Jatz would recommend the lamb rack that he had.
Day 8
Transalp came out to give us a tour around some of Banks peninsula and back to the city via the Port Hills road.
Then he showed us some of the Chch C.B.D or whats left of it.
Thankyou T.A for showing us a bit of your back yard we need to come back for more exploring sometime.
We then headed for Kaikoura via Leader road and the inland road. Will have to go again when theres no pea gravel.
Kaikoura was busy with a triathilon and some old truck owners in town.
Day 9
Happy birthday Jatz.
The last stretch home.
We stoped on our way up the coast to have a look at the baby seals swimming by a waterfall up in the bush. The waterfall was impressive and the seals were neat too.
Home now and my bum couldn't be happier.
cool write up Mrs Jatz![]()

Told yas there were seals
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Hey Jatz is that airhawk on your DR a proper size for the DR or is it generic? You know how it moves a bit like it isn't quite right?
I've seen some on DRZ & thoinking maybe of getting one but not sure if that slidey feeling is the norm for them or if it was moving around on the seat.
