if you put 2 more tubes in the top corners then wrap the sheets around those you will see more of the chart and it will flatten it out rather then rubbing over the middle piece of your container

i never bothered with mine since i havent got the cross section. i think Cooneyr and Transalper do it with there containers

I'm pretty certain you need to book first. Earnslaw page here. Make sure you head south from Queenstown to Garston (bit of a back track) and do the Nevis. Lots of stream crossings (27 ish) at the southern end so think twice if lots of rain. Serpentine is part of the SB route and you should be OK.

If you want to do something different from the DB route (seems sensible) might I suggest once you get to Cromwell you travel to Roxburgh, Lake Onslow Road and the Maniototo plains to Ranfurly, across to St Bathurns and do Little Omarama Saddle. DB route goes over Big Omarama Saddle is further west and actually named Omarama Saddle on topos (Little Omarama Saddle isn't named on the topos). PM if you want more detail.

Post Change for BBQ, Black Forest and Stickers.

Hi All. Was just think about stuff we need at the BBQ today and realised that many will be giving me/Mrs Cooneyr $27 i.e. BBQ = $12, Black Forest = $10 and Sticker = $5. This is a PITA number cause unless most of you bring exact change we will need a pretty sizeable float.

So in short please make an effort to bring the correct change or buy yourself beers at the pub (publican won't complain ) till you have the correct change. We will have a float but it will be from out personal funds so it won't be huge.

    Cheers R

P.S. I've just been through my list/emails etc and I reckon there will be 69 riders this year!

    Thanks Ryan

I found the Earnslaw details and rang real journeys, they reckoned I didn't need to book but to ring the day before to check the tides are right.

I've got Lake Onslow road and was going to head up and just go across Danseys.

Whats Little Omarama Saddle like technically and extra distance? it will be getting on in the day when I get up there and I'll be wanting to get to Fairlie and get setup and some food in me. So far my route for Friday is just over 600km's as it is.

I can't find Little Omarama Saddle, got any hints?

    Nice

Cooneyr, do you know if we can leave gear at Fairlie, Gladstone Pub, or any other place handy? Planning on coming down all packed up with tent etc as doing a few days exploring after the DB1K, it would be great to be able to store the excess gear, do the DB1K packed light, then pickup the gear and repack to head off again Monday.

Can I have french vanilla instead of black forest? I think it's a waste of ice cream having berries & crap in it. Chocolate at the very least.

I'm taking Gonzo down so am wondering if it gets knarly on the unchallenged bits. It'll do gnarly (went up maunga tonite & wouldn't want to do any worse than that on it- very rocky & rain washed out). I don't know what the riding is like down there. Similar to the DB Nthn route?

If you wanted to PM or email your bank account I can direct pay your fees?

Or just give Ryan $30 to keep him in beers for the event as small thanks for all his hard work putting this together, and to Mrs Cooneyr for putting up with all his motorcycling madness.

Sounds good, I have another 3 or 4 days up my sleeve after the DB, I had intended to put together a return route next week possibly heading towards Haast Pass with as many off road sections as possible. At at this stage there is no set plans as to where or which way I'm heading, I'm easy, just keen to check out some new country, camp up at a few spots, all in a sort of relaxed manner. I'm heading off fishing tomorrow but keen to throw around some ideas early next week, maybe there will be a few others keen for an extended return trip?

Thats a good point. Use your horns if you want to overtake people and give them time to get out of your way.

The challenge route out of Kurow is the most difficult section. I think you'll be fine on everything else and I'm sure you could do Kurow south challenge if you took your time.

I'd rather not have money being put into our account as we need to have cash on the day to pay for BBQ and Black Forest (there is no forest!). We're just collecting money on their behalf. It's getting a bit close to the date now to be certain that everybody's money will be through. Next year I'll be better organised and sort something out along these lines.

I have a tendency to drive Mrs Cooneyr mad in lots of ways She reckons no amount of cash can make up for this I don't do it for the money
