... best time to bash a man is when he is down cos he can't hit you back

Have you ever noticed that major acts of unprofessionalism only happen when you have a big audience.... no one ever sees that perfect stunt you just performed

I found sitting down much better for control in the water, when a 950 loaded with 2 weeks of camping gear starts to get unbalanced you need to be able to correct it in a hurry otherwise it's gone.

Otherwise I agree wholeheartedly with the rest of the technique, I only learnt that on the DB1K and it worked wonders going through all those streams towards the Omarama saddle.

My theory - use any way you can get across without dropping the bike & drowning it. Standing up & doing lovely clutch slipping & trials techniques aint gonna help you at all when there's a big fukka of a rock in your way or the rocks beneath your rear tyre are slippery as crap.

Ride with me, and I've got your back unless I crossed the river first, came off, and have being swept a kilometre downstream

I am glad my off brought you so much pleasure Shrek Crickey, here's me saying all these nice things about you in my posts, I may have to go back and do some editing

I'm happy to own up to a heroic off, unfortunately this was a bit on the dismal side, I barley entered the bloody water

On the plus side I now have the time for... tank off, seat off, drain airbox, drain carb, plug out, pump out water, prime carb, test start, reassemble and start up again right down to 12 minutes.

Or a rock big enough to park the bike on...

My technique involves one or more of...
    Standing, sitting, kneeling, walking...
    Whatever is needed.

    Has worked perfectly so far.

Touching sooo much wood now, you'd think I've got shares in a forestry plantation.

    Way too much information Nordie.

Anyway on river crossing technique, I am firmly in the padmei camp.
By all means go in standing but if you know its real bigbouldery then sitting is definitely the best. If you get stuck on a boulder or can't get over it then drop the clutch and try and sorta jerk yourself over it. May have to try a few times and may shift some rocks but it seems to work for me. Balance is everything on a big bike cos once they start going down they are very hard to stop.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
