The 0.9l old school click clack boxes were the go but I don't think you can get then any more. The clear plastic lid cases from Jaycar worked well and I'm onto a 1l sistema now Threaded steel rod with nylocks for the rollers, with a loctited T nut and a plastic door stop as the handles. Rollers in the top and bottom corners to keep the max amount of roll chart in view are nice to have. Bit of steel flat from the inner mount of your left hand guard to the back of the box seems to work fine. Don't use alloy rod for the attachment - that's how I lost my last one (fatigued the alloy)

Biggest problem with them is the vibrations make the chart unravel. To try and fix this you put more tension on the nylocks and then you can't roll it forward

    Cheers R

Can,t see Ryans pic, with my crap conection.

Used a "split" 1ltre "SYSTEMA"--same as Ryans, only divided into two 500ml compartments. Then it will sit on/in the handlebars central brace, held down by a couple of bits of tube rubber bolted on. Used 12mm wooden dowl for axles & put blue screw tops---(tops with "pullup part removed on bench grinder)----off,ve 'PUMP' bottles,on.(Pushon fit)
To retain the other end,I used Docking (castrating) rubber rings,in a groove, put in with a chainsaw file.
Rollers @ either end of box were 2.5 wire with plastic drinking straws threaded on.

Sits on bike O.K.--- but restricts the view/access to speedo& key etc,a bit.
Also a bit "fiddley" to fix ends of roll on,but I never had trouble with vibration moveing roll,---goin too slow,I spose.
    CHEERS AL.

We will discuss this tomorrow Nordie re possible purchase as its a bloody good unit.
    Or make one
I built it for the 2007 Dusty and even on that ride used the GPS instead. Just turning the roll chart to make it feel more authentic.

    Late entries

In addition to Ryan's Web link Fairlie accomodation list, there may still be rooms available at the Fairlie Hotel (just along the street from the Gladstone). $40 B&B. Ph: 03 685 8061.
