Worth upgrading?

I've browsed through this site for a while, but this is actually my first post here, so hi!

I'm riding an GN125, just to get myself to and from university every day. It's a 25km journey each way, from North Shore to Auckland Uni. I've been doing this for 2 years now, and my bike has held up well, hasn't had any problems at 14,000km. But it still spends about 45 minutes at 8,500rpm per day, and I don't know how healthy this is for the bike in the long term.

So should I upgrade my motorcycle? I'm a broke student, so I'm trying to spend as little money on my bike as I can. If my GN can last a few more years being thrashed down a motorway, then I won't bother upgrading. A max speed of 100kph isn't exactly a thrilling ride, but I don't really have enough money to spend just to be cool.

Or, if my GN will fall apart if I keep this up, what should I upgrade to? All I want is something that will be the cheapest thing for commuting along the motorway, and will last me a long time. Cheers!

It may pay to look at trading up to a bigger/older/cheaper bike and still stay within the 250 limit (assuming you are on a learners/restricted licence)
Thus no (or not much) outlay to "upgrade"

If your commute is mainly motorway riding, then you probably should consider upgrading. Your GN125 is a great wee commuter for in the city and as long as it has been well looked after it will help with the cost of an upgrade. University holidays are a good time to earn the dosh to make that change ready for next year.

Yeah I would definitely upgrade from the 125 if your mainly doing motorway riding.

With a bigger bike you will probably enjoy it more too.

Go the mighty GN. motorway from North shore to city is only 80.ks/hr for what..... 20-30 mins? The mighty GN is more than capable of coping.

If you want to venture out further afield it would struggle, but for the kind of commuting you're doing its fine. Just don't place too many more demands on it.

If you want to spend as little money as possible, then keep the bike and keep it well maintained.

Upgrading to bigger bike would make the trip more enjoyable, and they go faster, but won't save you money. More petrol, more expensive parts. Save your money for something nice later down the track (if you want).

a GN125 is not a bike, it is a polished turd with wheels, powered by the methane produced from said turds exposure to sunlight.

seriously though, yes. upgrade.
get a nice comfy 250. fuck, if you actually like the GN, upgrade to a GN250 if you want to.
ginny 125s arent made for a hundy kays. being taken on constant 100km/hr rides im surprised it hasnt sent a piston through the head at enough pace to remove a testicle, having said that, it would need to rev beyond 25 revolutions an hour for that to happen?
